Has Poison Finally Become a Viable Option?
Poison has always been a debated status effect in Monster Hunter. While it deals damage over time, it often felt too weak in higher-rank missions as it didn't scale with monster rank or the number of players.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, has poison finally been improved?

1. Does poison scale with difficulty? Or is it still a fixed damage effect that becomes negligible in late-game hunts?

2. Have they introduced new effects? Could poison now apply debuffs that weaken monsters in more meaningful ways?

In past games, poison was one of the best ways to disable Kushala Daora’s wind barrier, making it more vulnerable to attacks. Are there other monsters in Wilds where poison plays a crucial role in negating defensive mechanics, such as wind barriers or other environmental protections?

Do you think Wilds has finally make poison a strategic and worthwhile choice, or will it remain a niche status effect?

Poison isn't going to be viable. There is armor skills that does make it worth while but not top of the line damage output. One of the issue with poison is there is no build up if the monster is already poisoned.
Poison was actually pretty good in World.

I said the same thing in another post of mine, but I was incorrect. poison does buildup when a monster is already poisoned. But poison still sucks.

Currently I don't know anything that gets disabled if the monster is poisoned. Poison is fixed damage, which is like 50 damage per tick or something at HR, I don't remember. The only difference is how long a monster gets poisoned per application and how easy it is to apply it.

If foray wasn't a 3 slot gem, I think poisoned would be higher than meme status.

Poison is pretty good in this game because you can just apply it once or twice and then switch to a different weapon. There's also the skill 'foray' which increases your attack when the enemy is paralyzed or poisoned, and poison lasts way longer than para does. I'm not sure whether poison does anything else beyond enabling foray and damage, though? Or if it causes exhaust damage or anything like that.

considering you can switch between weapons, yeah it's viable.

Poison Artian bow is kinda nice, but only because it unlocks pierce coating. lol
The real benefit to poison, as it's always been, is that it continues to inflict damage even when you have to disengage from the monster.

fishing rod is a viable weapon in wilds.

I suppose it would be to marine life, I can understand your perspective.
Are you a speedrunner?? if not then everything is viable

Poison is less valuable in this iteration of the series even more so due to how fast monsters currently die.
It's been viable since Rise. Foray is a decently good skill, and Rathian weapons in this game are built around it with their unique poison extension skill and having 15% affinity baked in.

Paralysis is almost busted in this game. Combine Paralysis with a Poison weapon, open the fight and poison them, then swap to paralysis until you think it's about to fade, and start building it up again. Combine this with Foray to deal the extra damage to a poisoned or paralyzed monster, and it's a great strategy.

Poison is definitely viable, but like a lot of skills you should regard it as a support skill. Remember that many poisoned monsters cannot trigger their secondary abilities, and will be unable to cause as much trouble for hunters on your team.

That said, if you are scoping out your build, you're already over-thinking difficulty in the base game. Never has a MH title needed G Rank more desperately. Only 5 Star Tempered monsters will ever have you really think about your elemental weapon types.
