My Experience and fix for Crashes
I wanted to take a second and share my experience with the crashes that I have experienced and ultimately what fixed it for me. I was initially very upset with what seemed like instability when playing MH. I would have crashes during the shader unpacking process. I also experienced constant crashes while playing in game. Typically it would happen during loading screens or during frame rate drops when there was a lot happening on screen. It was constant and very frustrating.
Related but unrelated is that I recently picked up Warhammer 2 during the last Steam sale. I was excited to play it and once purchased I jumped right in. It was disappointing to find that there was an issue for intel processor owners. This "issue" prevented the game from starting for unlucky intel owners and resulted in a black screen and having to use the task manager to close the stalled executable. I did what I normally do, I jumped into the discussions on steam to see if there were others experiencing this issue. After a little bit of digging I found a thread talking about this issue that I was having. I read through the usual solutions, reinstall.... Verify.... Admin permissions.... Nothing worked. However I ended up stumbling across another fix to try. This fix was to;
1) Download the intel Extreme Tuning Utility and install
2) Open the utility and adjust the "Performance Core Ratio" down by "Two".
3) Please note that for me any augmentation to settings is lost on restart and need to be
reapplied.
After applying this fix method, the game started fine to my surprise and I shortly after discovered that the game wasn't for me so I returned it. However, I got back on to MH to play with some friends and the game ran flawlessly. For more than 12 Hours the game ran without a single crash. This never happened prior and completely changed the game for me now that I could actually play the game.
I verified that this was the fix that stopped the crashes on my game when I restarted my computer after installing some updates. I didn't realize until later that the settings didn't keep after a restart and I once again was terribly distraught by crashes until I decided to check the tuning utility and discovered the obvious for myself. Once re-enabled the game again ran flawlessly.
So, if you are having crashes on MH like I was. Only periodically or worse then try this out and see if it works for you. I was super frustrated that one of that games that I most looked forward to was almost unplayable for me. I hope that this can help someone out and avoid the crashes and get to the thrill of hunting instead.
