Why did Arkveld go extinct?
how can such a powerful species just go extinct like that? maybe it's a panda situation? or maybe a rival species took them out? hopefully capcom can elaborate further on this, on title updates or the expansion :MHRISE_OK:

what do you think?

Big ass animals tend to die to due climate shifts.
If you are big you need alot of food, if the climate/environment shifts food becomes less available and suddenly your bigness is a liability because you easily starve to death.
hunted to extinction most likely, even the normal arkveld poses a massive threat to the surrounding ecosystem (the one you encounter in high rank is up to the same nonsense as g. ark, meaning if left alone it'd collapse the ecosystem), odds are the ancient civilization hunted them (like how we do with wolves even though it's a bad idea) until there were none left. probably why they made a guardian arkveld as well, something with that much potential destructive power would make a good guard dog.

Rapid onset of climate changing, over hunting, or over predation by it of its prey until literally starving to death.

Large animals like that typically don't have large numbers population wise too, so even a few deaths in their species could cause major issues. If they're picky with mating, mate for life, or take a long time to produce and rear offspring, well you can snip an entire generation, and therefore a species quicker than might imagine.

It's possible many, many Arkveld were captured to research the ultimate guardian monster. Its hunger was mitigated by the guardian process, making it reliant on Wyvern Milk instead of eating.

It also is possible that Wyveria killed all the wild Arkvelds after creating the guardian version since a non-guardian Arkveld is probably the main thing able to kill your guardian versions.

He was the only monster around that dropped decent rewards (decorations/t8 artian weapon parts) so all the hunters fought him exclusively to get the best stuff.

Or at least thats my guess given how his extinction is currently being driven :treb:

But guardians are entierly artificial monsters, keeping the defining traits of their model.

Depends on how they researched the ability to create their own. It could have taken many specimens or just one. We don't know.
Lack of prey animals can do that. As we do not know if ancient arkvelds diet was the same as modern arkveld.

Because fatalis destroyed the ♥♥♥♥ out of them. Literally his job,
left it for the DLC maybe... the next monster is the cause for the ancient monster to go extinct
is because capcom didnt finished the game and the endgame he is the only other monster most ppl hunt in high rank.

Maybe just maybe the dragontorch being so good at being a bioenergy highway is the reason

hmm i don't think that's possible, unless the ancient hunters were extremely skilled or had access to really strong weapons/tech, usually our hunter is a prodigy of some sorts i don't think there are many regular hunters that are able to take down a arkveld like our hunter did, also they seem to be able to reproduce rather quickly (?) as the ending cutscene sorta implies.
