i was wondering why element damage felt bad,
Turns out they went from effectively 1x for charge lvl 3 on bows element damage down to between .2-.5 element per arrow according to datamined info???!?!?

dear god no wonder it feels like i was doing no element damage, i thought it was the low element values on the weapons themselves, (it still is technically) but no its the fact that it is literally doing at most 1/2 the element damage of previous games. the bow doesn't get a sharpness modifier like all the other weapons its equivalent is a 1.0 modifier on charge lvl 3 and a penalty on charge lvls 1 (.7) and 2 (.8) for its attacks.

So we went from games being 1/10th the listed element as true element x 1.0 (charge 3) x 1 (effective motion value) x hitzone (between .15-.35 on average, tobykadachi tail for example is .3)

add the fact the tobykadachi bow from worlds had 200 lightning as a rarity 2 weapon is only matched by the rank 8 fulger anjanath bow and artisan weapons. . .

add on most monsters have a max element weakness of like .15 (gore magala is so much worse at like .1 everywhere but antennae), with the highest element pass through of .25 found. (ebony odo face, xu wu mouth, and yian kut ku neck are the only 3* element spots almost everywhere else is 1* with occasional 2* spots). hell VELKHANA the endboss of iceborn had a .2 fire weakness at MINIMUM, arkveld has a .1 on mot of his body except the chains which absorb the element.

if they didn't want us to use element in this monster hunter game they should have at least just said so.

and just to check i went to get a damage tracker, yeah i'm hitting less than 10% element on almost every enemy except those few with 3* weakness which maxes out at 20%-ish. . . .

idgaf about element, give me more raw, I want to smack so much force into a monster it experiences the 4th wall mid swing.
I figure they're doing all that to make the Wounds more important.
Basically Wounds are the new Clutch Claw.
except the damage boost from clutch claw also affected element damage as it was a increase in damage threshold (basically added +10% damage pass through on every hit). so even though wounds are making us do more damage the baseline is absolute ♥♥♥♥ for bow.

its a fast attack weapon supposed to do status and element damage and failing that job (stats bows are restricted to basically 2 non-element bows because they gave us no damn coatings unless you use one of your 3 attack deco slots on a tier 3 deco for 1 coating. . . )

Here is an example Quetmatrice, its 2* on the tail with a lvl3 charge normal shot.
there is a mod separating physical (P) from Element (E) damage but thats it.
as you can see just shy of 21 physical damage and 7.4 element damage, the water bow i have is artisan rank 8 with 2 element up reinforcements AND water lvl 3. THIS IS THE BESTPOSSIBLE bow without getting another reinforce that hits element, there is no better water bow realistically possible and its only doing 7.4 element damge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is beyond awful for a weapon that was designed to do element/stats damage.
furthermore i have a arkveld fight (Same quest it was a double hunt) which its head is 1* just like 80% of all monsters and their hitzones and its doing ONE SINGLE POINT of element damage on its head with a 420 kut-ku stave bow (its better element than artisan options without hitting 3+ element up reinforcement). not to mention how little ammo pass through it allows considering it was only hitting for 7 physical on the head.

Thats true they palico's must be coating my arrows with element damage while i was eating X D

Real talk, Idk how anyone could even "notice" any type of damage being bad period with how easy this game is and how fast monsters kick the bucket.

This is something you wouldn't notice unless you were testing on a dummy/being told it's bad.

It really doesn't matter when everything dies in 2 seconds no matter what anyways.

It's far from "feeling" bad.

i mean yes, the damage overall is pretty high, but think about it this way we are only at the "end" of high rank. we have no elder dragons (even gore magala is not an elder). and all the new focus moves add a LOT of extra damage (similar to rise's silkbinds) but its really noticable when you fight quetmatrice and do about the same damage using a dragon bow as when you use a water one. . . . and that feels really ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

i get a lot of people really like the high physical damage playstyle (hammer, charge blade, greatsword, etc) but i prefer a tactical style where i have to bring the right tool for the job. Fighting alatreon in world was sick cause you had to bring theright element for each stage of the fight as a TEAM since you couldn't bring in multiple weapons and Farcaster was disabled.

Now if the implemented it in wilds it wouldn't matter what element you brought cause they don't actually do anything pretty much.
