Kunafa village
I'm having some trouble digesting the fact that kunafa people have never heard of weapons. Were they based on a real life tribe that didn't have weapons? Is that possible? Please enlighten me.

they using weapons themselves, i think what they havent heard is advanced weaponary and technology. and the people who can go against monsters.

from the look of dialogues, they re also very religious, they believe in baubles and such. windchimes. and look how it worked out in the end.

They have wind chime forcefields.

They are unstoppable.

im gonna throw on some more on this, but i was pretty disappointed they went with the reductive narrative that "the poor natives never knew how to deal with monsters" i would suspect they would probably have methods of dealing with monsters. i mean the thing with the chimes is implied but its so simplistic and kind of derogatory in how its handled. I was hoping for a storyline where the native people would have shown you alternative ways to deal with monsters, that maybe are more effective than just like outright killing them

also i know no one remembers this but the first monster hunter game on the ps2 had a super primitive motif, like it looked like it was set in pre-bronze age society, all the logos and UI had this look too so i was hoping they would actually like maybe explore that aesthetic more again

it would have been refreshing thematically.

I honestly loved it. Considering the genre was such unknown territory at that point it really added to the esoteric mystique of the game.
They're always 2 seconds away from a Darwin Award for the entire tribe.
Badly written nonsense.
Humanity's ancestors developed weapons practically before anything else because they're an absolute necessity in a dangerous world. The Monster Hunter world is thousands of times more dangerous than ours and we're supposed to believe this tribe has survived there for centuries without anything more substantial than wind-chimes for defending themselves...
Yeah no. Not possible.

That's what i thought, i gave it the benefit of the doubt though but...even so, still unimaginable
They do use spears I think but no weapons strong enough to fight monsters and they probably never even tried bc of the windchimes and traditions. It feels like a missed opportunity though. They could have introduced an alternative way to deal with monsters rather than hunting them, maybe a new hunting tool the villagers use to ward off monsters, or new environmental mechanics. Their existence in the story only serves so that the hunter guild has an ally immediately upon arrival

Yea, I agree. If you want to go with the angle that monsters are too big and scary for the native tribes to fight (for centuries, mind you) then they should at least have methods of luring and trapping the monsters. Make it at least somewhat believable that these people would be able to exist in a world with giant monsters for many years. The wind chimes were actually a nice nod to this, but there's got to be more than that.

Even just having dry moats or freakin boulder or pit traps set up to help defend their village would make a lot of sense. I don't buy it that wind chimes alone protects them from every threat.

You can still have them shocked and awed by the hunters ability to take the monsters head on rather than the methods they have to resort to to bring down monsters.
