Edit: i also just remembered, dual blades have a similarly long animation but break on hit so your point is moot
i play insect glaive, switch axe, and hunting horn and can confirm that literally none of those weapons instant pop wounds. switch axe is probably the longest, but both insect glaive and hunting horn also have a "combo" before you actually break the wound
i played around with SnS and think it may be the fastest, but it's still not instant (you latch on and then do a followup attack - quick, but not instant)
this actually makes gameplay much *better* in multiplayer (multiple people can tag a wound with their focus strike and all of them will go off)
You get 10 M.Potions and 10 Potions
You can craft more mid hunt
Shouldn't need a healing gimmick on top of that anyways
so drink a potion
you are genuinely complaining about a mechanic because it doesn't interact perfectly with a set bonus from 1 armor set (an armor set that nobody forced you to use)
play single player if you don't want other people to be able to take wounds, or play with people in voice chat and coordinate with them
Been playing the series for the 20 years it has spanned. Most of the times i won't even use megapots because I heal once or twice with 2 maxes and that's it.
But you are offering a non solution. There is an issue, switch axe gets regularly stolen from healing like the rest of roster due to animation duration. Either shorten it or make it so once you hit the wound you claim it while also letting other people tag for the heal once it breaks. Because at this point it is a gamble on everyone else is on the floor or distracted with something else to see if you heal or not.
