Nah, wouldn't have made a topic if I cheated for it. I just checked and while a mod does exist. I can give basics detail how I did it legit.

One you can save the investigation and trade hosting investigations with people via link parties. A thing I did to lessen the load massively.

The second is you can refresh rolls by resting at the camps to quickly check, more so useful for apex crown hunting. You can easily crown hunt in no time at all thanks to the feature.

And third, the large crown achievement is far easier, because large crowns just seem to appear more on tempered monsters from what I can tell.

I assume people know you can now check crowns via binoculars so I wouldn't include that in the basic tips.

Actually I have the ultimate proof I didn't cheat. The nexus mod for crowns released March 2nd, 7:59pm if you check the activity log.

You can see on my profile I unlocked the achievement for ten gold crowns on March 2nd, 10:09am. And the achievement for 10 mini crowns on March 2nd, 3:03pm. Earned 20 crowns minimum before the nexus mod was eveb released, and at the same rate one could easily fill out the rest with enough effort using the techniques I explained.

do the binoculars actually give info? i did it on a congalala and i just got it's stupid name and nothing else. perhaps im doing something wrong?

Yes, binoculars now tell what size, and show you what crown size a monster is. You get an achievement if you look at a gold crown monster using the binoculars. If you want to confirm, just look at an alpha doshaguma. Which is forced to be a gold crown, maybe silver.

Upon more examination of my saved investigations that had crowns. I should revise my previous statement. It's not that tempered monsters have a higher chance of a golden crown. That certainly is accurate in a way but for the wrong reasons.

It seems tempered monsters can't be small crown sized. That or they're so rare they basically don't exist. Which is why finding a small crown version of the apex monsters(who are often tempered) in the game is currently the hardest thing to do, by a mile. Like trying to find a small crown kirin in world, where you couldn't use the shock trap method to measure and you have to lure it to a flat part of the map to get a semi accurate measurement.
