How to pet your Palico

Since nobody is asking the real questions I'll have to:

I wann pet him every now and then and also i wanna ask his opinion about my missions and stuff. My heart melted when in MH:Worlds my Palico told me that he thought he was doin good work and he hopes i will always take him with me on my missions.
And now my only interaction is "play with Palico" which roughly translates to "make Palico sit next to you while you sharpen your knife"

There are 3 types of play time at the moment, what I've seen anyway.
The cat goes to sleep, and you poke it multiple times until they wake up.
You sharpen your knife, and you show the knife to the cat, and the cat trolls ya.
The cat jumps next to you, your choice to butt slam the seat, and the cat goes into orbit.

How do i do that? When i press RT to make the Palico sit next to me there's nothing else i can do. My Char just sits there doing nothing or sharpening knife while the Palico is watching. Nothing else

The jumping part I encountered in forest tent area, think in the first temporary tent that is set up for you.
Maybe just a region specific thing. Also maybe you also have to wait for it to happen on its own.
But it's basically the funniest interaction.
