The story is a bit clashing with my opinion as it's slower paced on several segments as seen by the complains
On Steam, these numbers are a little lower for under-18, a little more for 18-39. So PC players are about 10% under-18, 65% 18-40, ~25% 40 and older.
Players 25 years and older spend less than half as much time playing as players age 15-25 (3.5 hours/week average, vs 10+ hours/week average). So a rough estimate of how many are *online* at any given time could be about 50% 15-25, and 50% all other ages, with the majority of that half 25-40 years old. [Source for all: Statista]
Given this, its very unlikely that the majority of players are between 10 and 15 years old. They may just be the most vocal in the streams you chose to watch. It is possible that the majority of players, by hours played, are teens through early-20s, however.
Whether those story themes are designed to resonate more with youth or not, I think every age finds some element to resonate with. So, while parts of the game might be designed to increase appeal to young gamers, others will find different elements to be the main appeal.
