unfortunately your combo issue is literally skill issue
I agree that the controls have been taught better in previous games. I think 4 had a full on basics set of quests where you bullied Great Jaggi with sections on how to effectively use your new choice of hitting stick, but then there's also something as old as time.
Don't know how to use something?
Ask.
Fun fact? Capturing monsters is unlocked straight away in all games. There's trap tools in the vendor, and you can find thunder bugs pretty early. You don't NEED to know it until capturing is the goal of the hunt. Unless it's a "Slay" quest, you can capture the monster anytime you want so long as it's under a certain percent of hitpoints. You can also hit it with both tranq bombs early as well.
This is also a strategy for "Sleepbombing" as well. Bring a load of barrels, gunpowder, and Devils blight to craft more Mega barrel bombs, and weapons with Sleep element or sleep ammo as an option, smack it until it dozes off, explode and repeat.
The game is only as hard as you want to make it. Which is a fact most forum spammers never seem to realise.
Except they are. There's a reason you're given them as part of the supply drop for, say, Rathalos.
You...do know you can get free stuff to use before a hunt, right? That's also covered in the Hunter's notes, as well as the tutorials....
As the kids say.
Skill Issue. d=P
*Pity.
Don't play this like it's a darksouls game. Play it like it's street fighter and it should solve your main issues.
Also, during the campaign, you will occasionally get prompts to do specific things, that is basically a light tutorial on *optional* mechanics, like popping wounds, how to use your catching net and so on.
Yes, you have to pay attention to them (even though you can not realy miss them) and the game won't pause for you to read everything. Don't expect hand holding, even though this is the most beginner friendly entry in the series yet.
