Tails Difficult to cut?

So, i may be spoiled because of the easy Part Breaker Lvl 3, from the fire monkey early on, but does anyone else find tails of monsters taking an extremely long time to chop off?

Just now reached High Ranking quests, and even when I'm doing nothing but solely focusing on the tail with any weapon I use, Duals, Switchaxe, Gunlance, Lance, etc, etc, The monsters usually end up dead before lobbing their tails off.

Kind of feeling like "Part Breaker" is essential to cut off tails in any decent amount of time, without using the Great Swords' True strike attacks, which I assume has an easier time taking off tails.

Just a little weird that doing nothing but attacking the tail will kill a monster before actually taking it off. (using blades of course)

Make sure it can be cut to begin with by checking your hunting notes in the menu. Some of them look like they are severable but are only "breakable"

Worked okay for me so far with dual blades, or on difficult-to-reach tails with greatsword. Friend has been using longsword and does okay, too.

idk if its too hard just use a bow and spam dragon piercing its so stronk right now

or just use a quick draw build and chop and sheathe until it lobs off lol

na also its much easier to get 'tail parts' from monster itself

You need a wound, then an open wound, after that the tail will be chopped off.
I play with dual blades.

Cutting seems a bit harder now. But severing weapons do the job easily. Sword and Shield, Longsword, Greatsword and Dual Blades do a fantastic job of cutting them.

Breaking them to get parts, however, is easy enough.

The fire monkey was about the only one I didn't get a cut on up to that point in the story.

Rey Dau got his tail cut in like the second arena which felt super early with a Blunt kinsect and no partbreaker skills.

not having issues with the cutting when i can get too it, i am having issues positioning myself correctly to do so.

seems to me exactly as you said it, i can kill a monster in 4 min attacking just its tail. GS lobs it off with no effort, same with LS

I've not had trouble cutting off tails, and I usually have all or most of a monsters parts broken before they die with only part breaker at 2. The only one i've failed to break everything on in a single fight are the octopuses arms which I can have taken off 4 of Nu Udras before it died. Using lance

need Slice attacks to cut tail. Blast or Blunt does not work

I've had no troubles cutting off tails solo (with and without 1 support hunter) with the lance. I didn't even know the octo arms could be cut off until I was doing an sos around HR 90 erlier today. The only tai I have failed to cut off or break with the lance are the dogushama but you don't really cut them off just break them. Gore magala and Jin dahaad can be difficult to break off solo as they are tough to get around with the lance
