Thoughts on Palico followers being able to speak?
Haven’t seen anyone discuss this change yet (or if it was it got quickly buried) but wondered what people thought of having the option for them to speak normally? Personally I love it and think they’re adorable.

I appreciate that you can switch between the two. Myself, I prefer them sounding like cats and so play with that option enabled.
But that others can play with them speaking is absolutely fine by me.

Choice is good!

I hated it but I've grown to accept it since I have to turn on the voice or read the subs everytime the palico meows. Personally I think that they missed the opportunity to make wudwud the companion instead because of how funny they talk.

My only complaint is that there isn't a more masculine voice option for the cat. Wish you could pick between a couple.

I like it. Does not feel any different from reading subtitles when they talk. It is just so much more cuter now.

Agreed choice is good. Honestly for how closely Palicoes have worked with hunters/guilds etc. I’ve always wondered how they communicate since they would need to do so in many cases to do their jobs effectively.

They were cute enough to ignore it in previous games but I would sometimes just be like “How does this work when they seem to understand us just fine but we have no indication that various meows and other cute sounds can be understood by the humans?”

You can change the pitch. That makes a huge difference.

don't care for it, sounds really really weird after having them meow and make cat noises all this time. don't mind it as an option i guess but i disabled it literally immediately and knew i was going to from the moment i heard they could speak.

Genuine indifference. If they want to make the Palico an actual character with personality or not at all, I don't care either way.

As long as I get to hunt what is effectively God in the eyes of the local people and assert my self as the Apex Predator in EVERY Locale, I care not for the whims of mortals.

I wish I could make just my personal cat talk in felyne language during hunts and have all the NPC cats speak words. I know that's, like, really specific, but it's just kind of the vibe I'd prefer. (at least there are scenes where the cat VAs still all meow because it's cats talking to other cats.)

Pitch makes it sound robotic, it's horrible. My pallico in World had male angry meows, I loved it in combat. Made him sound like a crazy combat cat with fur standing straight and everything. Now in Wilds, both male and female options are much tamer and pretty much the same, I don't hear the difference.

As for the OP, if felyne language wasn't an option, I would have muted my game. Pallicos speaking is creepy and cringe to me. Need the meows. Meows bring attack buffs and kill monsters. Also makes you much more pettable.

Considering my cat is just Mae from NITW, it fits.

I've watched too much anime in my lifetime to care, honestly. If it was egregious, I'd probably be bothered, but it seems pretty standard Japanese cutesy voice to bother me at all.

Pitch is the reason I hated my characters voice in Hogwarts Legacy. It sounded like ♥♥♥♥♥.

It creeped me out and I switched it back to felyne immediately. I don't want my beloved palico sounding like murder Elmo on sesame Street.

Palicos always spoke "english" the older games just didnt have a big voice acting budget. nothing weird here
