A tip for those that struggle with controller
At first i didn't like the new focus mode mechanic at all, for a controller it felt just too button bloaty, and its difficult to turn camera and press the attack buttons quickly.

Keyboard and mouse however, it just works so damn well.. i doubt the devs put much effort into keybinds due to MH being mostly for consoles but holy damn it feels good.

its not perfect tho, other than combat its quite... lacking... but you can set up different keybind for each weapon which is really handy, so i suggest going to the training area and try it out.

Yeah. Sounds like focus mode heavily favors M&K.
focus mode with greatsword works pretty good with controller, the difference, you're not trying to spam attacks just do one big attack
I just don't understand the targeting in this game. Without focusing on the monster, I miss pretty much every attack, with most of them going off in a direction I did not intend. If I do finally manage lock-on and focus on the monster, my character will very slowly track the beast with most of my attacks *still* missing. I just don't understand why there has to be two different targeting functions that barely work in order to perform a desired action, whereas most other games only require one button, and actually works as intended.

I think I've been subconsciously employing the crab grip when using focus mode, haven't really paid attention to what I actually do but I know focus mode doesn't bother me, guess I'm getting back to the freedom unite days.
Changing focus mode from hold to toggle in the settings is immensely helpful with melee weapons. You can then play out most of the hunt in focus mode if you want without having to hold down LT the entire time.
