Corrupted save files most probably?
39 hours and hr 67, a satisfied end game build, did all the side quest except one. Game crash at the loading screen after a hunt and now the game always crash on 80% loading after selecting the character.

Tried creating a new character to see if it crash which it didn’t.

Man this sucks.

I think I’ve tried everything possible? Such as verifying game file, reinstalling the game, deleting local saves and redownload it from cloud ( which totally useless since steam only keep one version ).
Same thing happened. I have a reddit post on two forums asking for assistance. I just did a hunt and black screened. Force closed the app since nothing was happening for 10-15 minutes. Game refused to launch after so I restarted my computer. Proceeded to then launch the game which stated my save was corrupted and it had me go through the typical setup process like it was the first time I launched the game. Steam cloud manager only had the recent overwritten save file so everything was gone. Was so upset that I deleted the game. Im so demoralized that I wont play for a few years if ever...

Had this happen to me after Gore Magala. Have you had any fix or solution?
They couldn't fix this issue in World/Iceborne.
Funny seeing it again in Wilds

Mind boggling they don't locally keep backups of your save file. Feels like that's been standard in tons of games for a long time. Instead of just overwriting the current save, move the old one and make a new one. Keep the last ~5 versions or so.

The files are like 200kb, nobody is going to miss the 1mb of space to keep backups.

Maybe on PC. On console it is a different story.

Pretty sure this is the save data.

~Steam\userdata\STEAMID\2246340\remote\win64_save

back it up yourself

Thankfully the same restoration tricks like back then still work.

having the same problem I managed to download a previous save file from https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=2246340 but I don't know how to replace it with the current one

Put it in the savegame location with Steam Cloud enabled. If it is from before the corruption it will work.
