Insufferable Story [Spoilers Included]
I know Monster Hunter doesn't have to have a good story but I'd rather have minimal or no story than what this game had. I need to rant about this I know no one asked but holy:

- Nata is the heart of insufferable nature of the story and doesn't act like a 12 year old boy but rather as a middle aged man that's a coward with strong opinions on nothing he knows about. Constant face zoom ins, insists to keep seeing the trauma inducing monster, insists on trying to justify the monster it's okay that he is an out of control killing machine just because he WANTS to be a out of control killing machine that can ruin the entire eco-system.
- The tribes people not having weapons to defend themselves against some of the most harsh and dangerous conditions human beings have ever had to endure.
- The raptors being so invaluable they couldn't trade them to learn how to defend themselves.
- No deep explanation of what the guardians were used for how any success on them. No explanation of how they had so many failures but continued to make dangerous and out of control science experiments.
- No explanation of why there wasn't a library or instructions if the Keepers were so important to fulfill a duty they were never told to fulfill.
- No explanation or usage of the metal forged in the mine tribe city. It was pointless and we risked our lives for nothing.
- Monster that has the ability to absorb energy of other monsters but doesn't utilize the forces of nature it sucked was pointless.
- The Monster that somehow destroyed an entire civilization that was far more advanced was defeated by a single hunter and his/her cat. Are they stupid?

Just focus on the monsters and how cool it is to slay them and turn them into a fancy weapon. Monster Hunter World did a much better job introducing the monsters.

Instead, we get the story revolving around Nata, a man-child that decides to continuously travel with the main character and complain that you're slaying bloodthirsty creatures that tried to destroy his tribe and his previous civilization.

TL;DR

Story was probably written by ChatGPT and would have done better being more focused on being an exploration unit out to see new monsters rather than focused on satisfying the whims of a poorly written story lead. :htserious:

The story is all over the place, I didn't have a problem with Nata, he was kind of annoying I was willing to give a pass... up until a point and that point is when he returns home. Then I seriously start to wonder how all the adults around are so irresponsible and just plan stupid.

Like oh, the 12-year-old WANTS TO HELP we better listen to him and take him into constant danger, We can't tell him no.

Oh the `12-year-old wants answers, Better not leave him at his home village and bring the answers back, or even make sure it's safe first. Nope, the 12-year-old said he is coming with.

Oh A dragon is draining the energy and screwing stuff up, No one worries, we have a team of ace hunters and I will just kill it. No not even going to mention the option at the meeting....

Oh the 12-year-old says we better turn it off? I don't have experts around, we didn't bring a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ top ecologist and a world-renowned engineer with us and definitely NO ONE GET THE ORACLE FROM THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MATRIX TO GIVE SOLID INPUT.

NO, THE 12-YEAR-OLD SAID WE SHOULD TURN IT OFF. But don't worry we don't have 5 seconds to look things over with experts, but it's definitely not too dangerous to bring the 12-year-old with. Those grown adults can't come though, They might make the world a better place if they see this technology.

On a side note, We should just colonize this land, the people have no defense, No knowledge and seem to be in constant danger and the land has a source of unlimited energy. Seriously look at my guild hunter uniform I've never felt more colonial than this in a game left me feeling super British, if you get me.

Every story with kids end up bad, at least the gameplay is cool

Nata simply learned that whats important in life is having fun and not listening to others whining about “ecosystem” and “destruction”.

Things want to live, and it's pretty deep. There are also some that want to protect something that lives and that is sort of like their calling and it matters (a lot). There are feelings and they are wonderful and meaningful. Sugoi desu ne. :mhwgood:

keep playing cause half your complaints are cleared up when you get a bit further.

Yeah story is full of dumb things and some characters are annoying, when we reached Nata's village I was confused when he kept following us, like bro "you helped identify the monster and we found your village, thanks and have a good life"

It's not the worst tho, just skip the cutscenes if you really don't like it, it's not like we're playing MH for the story anyway

That is true but man this story was just a constant insult to intelligent thinking. I'm playing the game for the $70 game play which I have to say mixed feelings on too. It does some improvements to World and some not improvements with a lot QOL items being bugged or missing. In addition the lobby and matchmaking is worse than World. In game design, the vision they had previously, with the camps supposed to be essential in game play reduced to just fast travel points.

The monsters they featured here also are sorta lame compared to Ultimate, and more recently Rise, and World.

Raven made a great point here too about the flow of dialogue and the fact they treated this child as if he was the smartest one in the room constantly.

The storyboard feels like it written not just by inexperienced storytellers, but people prioritizing some unprocessed trauma and ideals without substance. The tribes could have been much more in depth and way cooler if they just gave them more character than some food and a sense of innocence with the commiee "I'll give you my share!" sort of deal.

Also the villages that were the super advanced civilization that split into two, are way too small and with no tools to provide is stupid. Agriculture wasn't even shown which is the basic civilization foundation to everything in terms of evolution and advancement. They can't be hunter-gathers because they have no tools and weapons so what else are they supposed to be? :bbtcat:

When white Fatalis shows up in the DLC, most of this will be addressed.

Yup. I knew it was gonna be bad the moment they announced it was gonna be more story focussed. Would much rather it be like old MH games. Just start me off in a pretty little village and let me go do my thing. No need for story.
I agree that Nata is annoying, but I disagree that he isn't acting like a child. His behavior was very child-like imo. He projected all his emotions and nonsense onto the monster that caused him his trauma. Said trauma obviously caused a lot of mixed emotions, as trauma usually does. It can make you be and do very irrational things. He's annoying because kids are oftentimes kind of annoying.

I also was a bit annoyed at the fact that he kept tagging along after we finally found his village, but I could tell what they were trying to tell and set up with him (trying to become a hunter). This story has literally no consequences and basically no one dies or gets actually hurt, everyone ends up okay. Even the Keepers survived the guardian attack, though it's kinda implied some mayhaps died (unclear iirc). So I dealt with it, he never actually got in the way of the fights so that's a blessing, but my god did I yell at my screen quite a few times during the end when he kept insisting on coming. xD

It's very clear they wanted to have an easy story to understand and play through, but nothing particularly groundbreaking because they know people come for the gameplay and not the story (or so I'm told, I'm new to the series). They didn't want anything that would potentially rustle a lot of feathers (in the sense of trying really hard to be good and failing).

I'm mostly just waiting to see if there's more explanation of our own hunter's backstory, but I'm guessing they're being cryptic because they want you to be able to self-insert and make your own backstory in your head as much as possible.
Racist.

Story was put in for the Insufferable reviewers and tablet generation gamers that need their hands to be held and told what to do, when and where to have fun to get their facebook/mobilegame rewards.

Game used to be, you were guy, guy got ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up by X monster, lost his memories cant talk, found floating in the river by the towns people, and starts over.

Story was a tutorial the real game was having fun hunting monsters and getting better which was amplified by the amount of friends you have playing. So if you hate what this is, Look in the mirror. YOU did that.

Guys, if all characters in the game glaze the player non stop, you know what you got yourselves into. Just saying, highest priority is to stroke gamer's ego.
Ziack Mar 6 @ 7:09pm
The story was good, you're just a simpleton. Also don't play on English, I'm sure it ruins it.

You really expected them to reveal everything right now? When they are going to release story updates as time goes on, expansions to further explain things, etc.

For me, this was the best Monster Hunter story so far. Coupled with the fact that your player character is voiced, and it's totally epic in Japanese, I couldn't be more happy, and I am hyper critical about stories in my games.
