Longsword
I am trying to remember what Longsword was like back in world and whether Wildlands is an improvement or not, Longsword seems a bit off.

As in, the slightest bit off.

I don't recall Helm breaker being so vulnerable to any and every attack and I don't recall every monster having attacks that time well to somewhat halt you mid combo.

I am enjoying this weapon but there are times where I scratch my head wondering why I am getting hit while 30 ft above the monster as it does a leg sweep. Or watching my foresight slash work but the monster backs off as if its designed to be anti-longsword.

Regardless, it just feels like there are certain attacks within the longsword combo's that just need to execute a bit faster so you aren't cut-off mid way or animation locked into getting hit.

Great weapon but ever so slightly off.

Thoughts?

its a bit off, because when you execute helmsplitter , there s the new extra bladedance move and you re open to attacks during it.

but new red gauge moves are good, makes you fast, adds new counter and stuff.

anyway i guess we just need to get used to it.

Yeaa I think that's the right answer.

Red gauge moves are the way to go probably because getting Helmsplitter off successfully seems to just not be worth it imo.

I am gonna just use the red gauge moves unless the monster is 100% down and/or red is almost out and try to finish with helmsplitter
The only thing that feels off about the helm splitter to me is aiming. Seems you cant really adjust the trajectory as well in wilds. Noticed also a lot of monsters have invisible walls that interfere with aiming it / side switching too. I guess that's why you can roll cancel it now.

+1 for spamming new red gauge move.

Those are insanely powerful if you don't want to play it risky with helmsplitter and constantly counter baiting.

Just go back to yellow then stab some wound and you are ready to go ham again.
So yes, I now just spam red gauge moves rather than risk helmsplitter.
I am having a much more enjoyable time with longsword now.

BUT I do think there is a genuine bias AGAINST longsword with the majority of the monsters in this game.

From attacking patterns/behavior by monsters to the longsword combos, in general, executing too slowly or forcing you into a locked stance (animation).

I will get a foresight slash off but the monster backs off, not allowing you to increase the gauge. ALOT of monsters do this and it's almost as if they themselves are using their own monster version of foresight slash.

Idk. It's like, once you gain traction, Longsword is fun but many monsters seem to just behave almost as if they are designed to counter primarily longsword because of Worlds experience with longsword.

Regardless, longsword is still pretty strong but I am confident in saying there is something up with the mechanics of monsters generally being against/countering the use of that weapon.

LS users not complaining every new MH challenge: Impossible

Its off because you lose the control now. You can no longer redirect properly with LS. In World you can easily adjust the direction of all your moves including the RT. Now every single move adjustments cone are smaller, hence making it feel stiff. The first two RT moves now move you forward like wild. So now I can only adjust RT to the direction of my liking at the third slash, or i tend to use back slash first before RT. Helmsplitter cone smaller, you lose a lot of the control mid air now hence it's not longer accurate. The best as the other guys explain is to just button smash after hitting red gauge with auto lock-on. So many quality of life issues in the game I almost lost interest now.

you can technically still control the helmbreaker in midiair with focus mode to aim precisely, another thing to note if you are going to miss the helmbreaker you can sheathe to prevent red loss which is nice cause the monsters tend to go the palico aggro hence the monster missing your attack

allthough its not like helmbreaker is the only option for LS right now, you can just spam the new gauge move which is very great for dealing damage.
the new red gauge also gives you access to their exclusive counter which is great for position and goes straight to helmbreaker

having sakura slash to generate bar is pretty good, so focus has a reason to go with LS.
