Feel like I'm playing wrong. Bow main.
Using bow. HR 30.
Done all but two of the hunts completely solo, only fainted twice on Black Flame.
But all I do is spam dragon piercer.
Dodge, DP, dodge, DP, focus wound, DP DP DP.
Was fighting Uth Duna and the poor bastard didn't even get to move zones once as I opened another wound on it every DP and just stunlocked it 7 times in a row.

So I'm winning. But I'm ignoring all this stuff I feel like I should be doing.
Is spamming DP viable or am I playing stupidly and actually doing way worse than I think performance wise?

If you play any ranged weapon you're doing it wrong. Ranged is for cowards
Bow seems to be pretty stupidly strong this time around if the near 100% usage I've seen of it online is any indication. And watching them play it's about as braindead as you described.

Turns out being able to hit the entire monster and every wound all the time every time is a bit strong.
Bow was always just for noobs.

As long as the monster dies it doesn't really matter, play how you want, do what you want.

I'm mostly using Charge Blade this time and have used the Super Amped Elemental Discharge like 5 times total. Even though it's considered the strongest attack that CB has, it feels bad to me to set up for it and use it, so I just don't and kill the monsters faster than when I'm trying to find openings.

Whether something is "correct" or not is up to you. If you feel like spamming DP is fun, then do it. If not, then don't.

People like to min/max and create Meta in this game, when it's the one game that really doesn't need it. If you aren't fainting, and are killing or capping the monsters in the time limit, then you're good.
skill issue
I guess it's just my own crazy.
It sorta feels like playing a jrpg and only ever use "fight" for everything. Like the game has a whole combat system but you're just coasting through using "fight" when you could be doing combos and spell effects and trio attacks and etc.
I'll just see if I can make an entire build off of dragon piercers. Maybe there are good passives and jewels for it.

Are you using Focus mode to aim your SAED? cause basically anything you block you can SAED and just aim the shot any direction. Including spinning 360 for style.

It's more that I never really have phials ready for it when I get a good block or knock, because of axe combos. Maybe it's because I haven't found any armor or decorations with skills that let me manage them better, but I feel like I'm losing more damage in Sword mode to generate them than I'm getting when I do use it.

I should note I still haven't gotten to end game yet. I was more pointing out that as long as you're enjoying it, and you're completing hunts, it doesn't really matter what you're doing or how you play. I also play solo or with friends so I'm never annoying people by not being optimal.
Doing 6 star hunts now and I feel like I'm playing the game right even less.
Switched to trying longsword and I'll run up to a monster and be like 24 dmg 24, 24...

Or I can use a bow and dragon piercer for 150 every few seconds.
Despite that I'm just getting two shot after piling onto a monster with three other people for 15 minutes.
Last Jin Dahaad fight I was attempting so I can make the tier 3 ice bow we hammer him constantly, dropped the 6k+ damage ice wall on him, got him down to the final floor and he froze me with an ice beam then immediately killed me with a second ice beam and apparently we already had two faints.
Either the HP is bloated to ♥♥♥♥ or I'm just not getting how to actually hurt things now.
Bleh.

its all about stamina management use power shot as much as possible and the new guided arrows are essential for the kit now pop wounds with you fucus aspecially if your about to be hit as when you let go of the arrows the monster just sits there taking it in the butt

sadly because bow is so stamina heavey its gonna be tricky early game untill you can get decos that help with stamina i highly recamend hirabami armor for the evade window max skill will come in clutch

sent a friend request can show you hwo to play bow or just do some hunts with ya
