Just tested it (both combos in focus mode + Bone Glaive 2) : Strong Descending Slash into Strong Rising Spiral did ~170 Damage.
Strong Rising Slash + Tornado Slash + Strong Rising Slash + Tornado Slash (looped it once because it was about the same time to execute) did ~270 damage
Based on this, the Strong Descending Slash into Rising Spiral is a good finisher, but your bread and butter should still be the Tornado Slash loop
Once I learned this move, it's been so much easier to play. You can also go into focus mode and just hit your Y or Strong Rising Slash Combo, it'll hit the enemy and send out your kinsect at the same time while marking the target, so it'll just buzz around it constantly damaging it, can recall it whenever you like to gain the buff.

This is what I'm talking about. You can see in the top left corner, the kinsect spreads its wings to allow for extraction of 3 buffs at once. If aimed correctly, you'll get all three, although in battle this is much harder to do, I usually get 2 then I have to aim for the third one manually, it's been much faster though and I'm getting better at it.
And i was a Insect glaive user in worlds.
I find it MUCH improved now to be honest.
In this game, for now, Glaive is too slow, extract gathering is tedious coz you need all 3 colors in order to perform.
"Big damage" moves using all 3 extracts on hit, so you need gather them again with a slow awss insect, yeah wounds restore all 3 extracts, but this is unrealistic to have wounded monster all the time.
But i think there is deco crystal or some set bonus for wounds, but i dont know..Another thing Holding Buttons for most usefull stuff is anoying af.
Ima a Long Sword main for now, untill they change something.
*Lol farming clowns in these forums is a speedrun. :D
The key is to hold down your B button (on x-box controller) down while you're doing the Strong Rising Slash, let it go at the end, then immediately hold it again, and do another Strong Rising Slash, just repeat this.
Of course if your buffs are about to fall off, Rising Spiral Slash should be used to finish it off and get 1 or 2 buffs back.
It's EXTREMELY aggressive.
Don't focus so much on getting triple buff, you can finish it by attacking in focus mode. You just need red to do the charge
Edit: this seems to relegate Tornado Slash to a poke move rather than a large opening move. That's sick. I can't wait to play this weapon more. I'm focusing on SnS and SA for the story.
Well yeah, the thing is that like iam standing 1m away from monsters face, im aiming right at his face, sending bug to extract red...But god daym monster moving faster that my Lvl. 6 Speed insect cant reach mf even from that distance lol :D
Prolly iam playing Glaive with World style in mind. I just found out, that in Focus Mode if you aim Up, you can constanly attack even from distance and the insect performing attacks will be able to collect extracts from all parts it touches - mb this is the way.
But holding buttons is something i dont want to do for hours i play, it alreay hurts lol :D
I`ll try tips, other guys posted, usefull info
But I loved Insect Glaive in MHGU and MHWI. The changes in Rise seriously put me off the weapon though. I basically quit Insect Glaive entirely in Rise because they moved all the controls around to make room for the Wirebug controls.... so I've kinda been put off trying it since.
To be totally fair though, I've literally used NO OTHER WEAPON besides Bow in Wilds so far.
