Overall: 4.5/5
Gameplay:5/5
- Wonderful, I always wanted to play Lance, but I have terrible aim, but now with focus mode I feel way more confident, and Focus Mode is wonderful.
Design: 5/5
– The weapons have distinct characteristics again, finally! And the Armors are peak! If you are into fashion, choose a female character, because she has now cool and beautiful armor sets, but it is quite embarrassing for a male character… but thankfully, MH has a history of male armor looking better than female ones anyway, so who cares.
Story: 3/5
– Guardian Part was Peak, but Nata was annoying (at first, I admired his guts for crossing the desert, but he slowly grew more obnoxious over time). A depressed and silently vengeful type would have been better, who for example wants to learn to be a Hunter, basically a squire. That would have been a more reasonable approach. The balance between emotionally whiny and serious was off. Gemma had a near perfect balance on that topic – Nice! She had personality and didn’t try to be the main character all the time, unlike Nata! Without Nata I would give the Story a 4/5, because it is a little bit too much story for a Monster Hunter Game. It was nice and occasionally deeper lore would be fun, but the Story should mainly exist to introduce and build up Monsters nothing more than that, at least in my opinion.
Optional Quests: 0/5
- No distinct flavor! No background story like in Old Gen MH! They are even blander than MH Worlds Optional Quests. I think that Optional Quests should be renamed as Side Quests and all the original Side Quests should appear in the same category as Special Side Quests or Urgent Side Quests, which can be differentiated with a small symbol from the other Optional/Side Quests. Doing the Side Quests in Old MH Games was fun, but in the newer ones it is boring. All Optional Quests should not be from Alma, some could have been sent by the mainland, for example by the Headquarters, the Weapon Guild or some Merchants from the Mainland. This would give the Optional Quests a distinctive guild vibe. Please give some love to these poor Optional Quests.
Guild Card: 1/5
- It looks more boring than ever. I personally always saw the Guild Card as a Hall of Fame, but now that Hall looks empty AF.
Immersion: 4/5
- Gemma and Fabius as well as completely erasing gender from the game, shows that Capcom decided to not participate in the Culture War – GOOD CHOICE! Entertainment First! As for the choices behind armor design and region can be easily explained. Capcom listened to the complaints about Armors, especially female helmets being boring and did something, while also halving their own work (they made 50% less Armor Designs LOL) and on top of that they paid the “Toll Fee” to game “journalists” so that they wont sabotage MH Wilds like how they usually do! As for the Region, Capcom always did that remember MHF1 was a Central European Village, MHFU (2nd Gen) a Snowy Mountain Village, 3rd Gen a Semi-Hawaiian Fisherman Island Village, and 5th Gens Rise being basically Japan, just like the other 3rd Gen MHP3rd Village, etc… So that is still in line with the Monster Hunter Universe. This is basically MH-Universes Ancient City of Babylon.
Locales/Maps: 5/5
- Nothing else to say about it, except that they are perfect!
Did I miss anything?
Fantastic monster designs. Gameplay is just a refinement over it's predecessor. Story is ♥♥♥♥. But that's not why you play these games.
ALso, it's very funny, that you can swap between lots different sets of settings and still get the same performance, lol
If you didn't play them, get one of them:
They're cheaper and better optimized.
The downside is:
They won't have as many players for coop as Wilds.
