The "open world" adds nothing to the gameplay value.
It's nice in concept but you just fast travel everywhere anyways making the whole idea kinda pointless.

Given what was seen in the datamine and from what we are playing; It looks like they tried to do a "Open World", as seen with Windward Plains, but abandoned it almost halfway through development.
If you want to get fully immersed into open world then you can simply ignore the fast travel option :lunar2019piginablanket:

All open world means is that you can seamlessly run from one end of the map to the other. You can do that. You don't have to use fast travel just like you didn't have to use it in Morrowind or Witcher 3.
Then why are you playing this instead of street fighter?

After the first map they're the same size as world/rise anyway, which to me was the perfect formula.
Uhhh exploring is fun. I only wish the game gave me more incentive to do it. So is having a large open environment to fight big monsters in. I also purposely avoid fast travel because I personally consider it a kill joy in this game, but I don't mind it existing.
