Picked it up in Wilds, and it felt far more good to use. While there is a lot to say about ammo balance (slicing becoming quite limited) and attachement removal bringing fixed recoil (spread feel awful imho), the new charging jauge for burst-mode give a bit more to handle during the fight beside crafting ammo. It somehow give more rythme to it's use.
It's actually one of my 4 weapons, aside heavy bowgun, HH and gunlance.
So for now, i'm satisfied with it. We'll hopefully see balance coming.
I know I can still knock out monsters with eagle strike, exhaust amo, and sticky amo but its not the same. The imput had a nice reactions flow, and was a available imput if I was on the reload and needed just that one luckily KO to give me time to reload. Also always wonderful to melee a Wvernblast. Best feeling to place 3 blasts on a sleeping monsters face and then just BASH, BASH, BASH.
I also miss slicing amo on LBG, adhesive amo is fine for infinite slice amo, but the cool down and damage isn't worth the sacrifice. But I will say as a MH Rise fan (I apologize for being a rise fan btw), it does remind me of Wire Bug LBG wyvernblast. Where its just put a target on the moster you get to shoot at for more damage. Doing that was my biggest highlight of rise, incredibly fun planting a target on the monster and shooting it. I will admit the wounded on monster gives me the sane satisfaction as that for both bowguns.
As for bowgun customization I'm mixed on it. Sure going through Reload, Recoil, Deviation etc stats for every bowgun and its ano was tedious, but it's also most of the fun to find and customize the perfect bowgun for the players.
I'm fine overall with the new LBG, but Damn I miss slice amo and melee bashing.
You've more or less summarized how I feel when it comes to Melee bash, Slicing, and even Rise (Huge Rise fan, played them all, and no I'm not sorry.)
It's a shame though for me, but while I do see good in LBG as it is now, I can no longer main it. Not in some exaggerated "it's the death of LBG!" but more of a simple fact, after many many years, I can no longer main LBG because I'm just having less fun with it than the competition.
I'm sure some people are having a great time, but it's just not for me anymore I think. I may come back to LBG to give it another shot but I think i'll wait for a bit until I'm less frustrated.
Edit: Also no, I am not basing any of what I said on what is "Viable" or what kill times people get, I only care about how fun something is in gameplay for me, and do not seek to invalidate anyone who truly thinks it's better, I just do not find it fun any longer.
lbg got insane mobility in rapid fire mode, it almost feels like the monster ai cant keep up with it, was able to solo everything without getting hit with it
but ye i wish we got atleast a bit more ammo variety
On the meta subreddit some people looked into it and unless you're a speedrunner or a machine there's no much damage loss from not doing it anyway for the average player.
There is no LBG any more besides Rapid Pierce or Normal... which is doubly ridiculous since LBG used to be primarily an elemental weapon.
That is how I've felt about my main Bow since World.
It went from carefully timed charge shots to dodge-shoot-dodge-shoot-dodge-shoot. I'm used to it, but I never stopped hating it and my fingers hurt after two hunts.
The Bow focus shot thing is only really useful solo. In multiplayer the bladeys always pounce on wounds instantly so you barely get the proper finisher with Bow and end up with this awkward moment where you wait for the dragon piercer to trigger and just get hit by the monster instead. I've kinda quit using it. Regular shots, Power Shots, Arc Shots and Dragon Piercer are all the Bow needs. And I still want a mod to completely remove Thousand Dragons from the game as I've NEVER used it deliberately... only when trying to Dragon Piercer and forgot to let go of RT first.
But yeah... LBG and HBG focus shot is so irrelevant I never use it. Ever. No point.
