Light Bowgun Changes
Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the LBG changes. I've been playing Light Bowgun since I got into MH a while ago and I believe that world had a good balance of different reasons to play different ammos. I've always been a Sticky/Elemental LBG player for most of my hunting in that game depending on the situation. How do we feel that recoil and reload speeds are fixed to the ammos along with the removal of ways to reduce those times in game sort of shifting us to a pierce/normal setup for people who don't want to build 5 different Bowguns for different elements? Just curious to hear what other LBG players think about it because I personally think it's a bit of a step back to take away other playstyles that were extremely fun and entertaining for other players. Always good to hear a different perspective though.

So I haven't played lbg in Wilds yet (on an alt, so no playtime on this profile), but I was an lbg main in world. It was common to build different weapons for different elements until the alatreon lbg released. Maybe I'm missing something since I haven't played lbg in Wilds, but I'm not understanding why making different weapons for different elements is any different than world

Oh it's not that its different to do that, I'm just saying that with things like Sticky, Slicing, and Spread, you were able to do non-elemental LBG setups that had different utility like easy tail severs, easy stuns, or just really high raw damage. Crafting different elemental weapons for different monsters weaknesses is a thing with any elemental setup whether its LBG or Dual Blades.

I too have been a sticky lbg lover for a long time, mostly thanks to World and the Safi weapon customization. I also believe that while I think the series is taking some good steps forward, gunners as a whole are being rebuilt and we've lost a TON of QoL. I don't think it feels nearly as fun. Ultimately, with the weapon/armor skill changes too, capcom would need to aggressively change our recoil and reload specs as a first step towards redemption and give us back spare shot!

I tried LBG's and they do not feel good. They feel like peashooters, like they have no power or impact.

Really glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks this. I felt this weird kind of jealousy when I saw of the extra stuff that Bow was getting with the free coatings, tracers, automatic wound breaks, etc... and was kinda just like..... okay but what about the other ranged weapons?
I mained both blowguns in most monsters hunter games and the both feel terrible in wilds but lbg feels worst than heavy so I dropped it.
played lbg in GU, 4u, world, rise And i despise how much they butchered my favorite weapon in wilds. I HATE WHAT THEY DID.
Been a bow player all my life but wild bow is so brain dead OP that I am gunner main now.
LBG starts slow and you kind of stuck with Normal ammo until you get Congalala. It’s a power spike and you feel piercing ammo doing numbers.
I change to Rry Dau LBG for looks and P3 ammo.
Overall I think it’s really good place. Little boring than prior games but powerful.
I think people may be giving up before getting few must have skills and lack of flashy gameplay.
I don't like that the evade reload is limited to rapid fire mode only.

Then, without a farm setup for making ammo, I find you're stuck using Normal or pierce. Even then pierce has a very narrow effective range, you have to stay at a specific range to do the most damage and there's no wiggle room. Spread has way too much recoil to be effective. Otherwise you're running around trying to find the matts for each hunt for the other ammo types, and from what I saw, they weren't much more effective than the default three.

That being said, I do like the rapid fire mode. I like that when you evade in rapid mode and have ammo, you do an evade rapid shot, but if it's your last round then you can't evade reload after that evade shot.

I keep forgetting to do chaser shots, but they have high recoil as well. So it's basically wait to use it for your last round in the mag, before reloading or not at all if you're in rapid fire mode. Unless you have that tetra-something skill on the gun, where the 4th and 6th shot does more damage, if you time the chaser for the 4th and 6th shot you're stacking dmg.

I like the adhesive special ammo, I find it gets more use than the mines, but doesn't seem to do as much damage. It likely balances out over time though, mines being high alpha, while adhesive is more sustained, with more use cases.

Big thing though is the unlimited ammo on the default shots. There's no point to running an element, sticky, etc. Especially since there's no auto-farm to help with the ammo situation. Really hurts things. Either everything has ammo and you have an auto-farm to help supply it, or you do unlimited ammo for everything. Splitting it, with no farm, just encourages people to not use limited ammo shots.

Btw there is a farm in high rank
Hammer main myself but I personally adore having an LBG as my backup, dont think ill ever main it though personally......little too finiky on the critical distance for my liking.

Looks like the meta for LBG right now is spamming the evade sidestep shot with pierce 3. The LBG can still get respectable kill times, comparable with most other weapons.

Same with HBG, all the customization is gone and somehow your still more powerful. If I had to grade the changes overall it would be C-

So chaser shots are basically a complete waste of time to do? Kind of sad, was hoping they would do competitive damage to give some risk vs reward play for LBG and make it more interesting than spamming one type of attack.

It seems so. I assume the runners would be using chaser shots if that was the optimal way to play. I was in the same boat as you, thinking that chaser shots were the highest damage playstyle.

I'm kind of fine with it though, chaser shot spam hurts my hand because you have to hold a controller in an awkward position to use it. Plus the sliding shot spam looks cool haha, but thats just my opinion.

Its only day 4 though, so things might change who knows.
