The story in this game sucks
This is an open world game yet I'm forced to watch scripted walking with characters I don't care about. How do you manage to make a worse story worse than older MH games, the bar isn't even high come on.

Story should be an excuse to explore and see cool monsters. That's it. I don't care about the indian kid or all of the other lobotomized characters. Who wrote the script, chatGPT?

Why do they always do this? They promote the story as if it is something incredible and it is just a turd on my screen. Instead of wasting time in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ story, fix the game and let me explore and kill monsters.

Game is called Monster Hunter, not Wattpad. I play monster hunter for the monsters, not the NPCs. Nameless hunter is what all characters should be.

Damn i don't get how someone can be that absessed about the story xD
Ok, real talk... Story and some mechanics there are not my favorites either.
But damn, skip it and while beein forced into the saddle grab your hook/net and get some loot and time flies by like nothing ^^

story not really amazing but all monsters intro are so badass . also finall boss is really amazing and way your hunter handle call to fight it . Overall no one play for story . combat and gameplay what people play this game . i think Nata was worse choice to add to game . How u able to create someone like Gemma in same thing to give us Nata haha
Thats the spirit xD

...they could have EASILY done a not-open world game, give us the same story, AND THE PERFORMANCE WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER...
The game is not open world not real and not technically.
It's open area like every MH before and i don't see any possible performanceimprovement coming from here.

Why do so many people call it "open world"?

Because it is by definition, it doesnt matter what anyone says lmao.
I thought it was at least interesting.... If you wanna just log into a game and KILL KILL KILL without even an ounce of skill or thought... I hear Call of Duty exists?

Monster Hunter has soul to it ... even if the story isn't fantastic... it's better than "Hunt this!" ..... "Now hunt THIS!" ...."AND NOW THIS!" ... It'd get boring if there wasn't a Reason...

The old games were never about hunt this and hunt this. There was always a lot of spare times, the difference is that the players were allowed to choose if they wanted to chill, to fish, to cook, instead of being forced to watch a story. Play OG Monster Hunter 1 for PS2 and you will see that the story is there but is our choice to see it or not. Can you imagine playing dark souls with walking sections in which the fire keeper tells you about each place you go? oh hey, thats the undead burg, oh man, this place was so alive back then, if it wasnt for the curse... i still remember my parents, they used to have a shop her....SHUT UP

r u sure the soul is bad writing cuz the soul is about the hunts not the bad writing/story/cast
Even when wanting to skip all the tedious ass cutscenes, there are still a lot of unskippable parts, and then you have forced handholding slow-walking nonsense and as such, it all contributes to making the story the worst in Monster Hunter history.

This, the unskippable walking made me morbidly curious about the story... worst mistake ever, worst most unreasonable writing ive seen.

If there's two things World did wrong they were unskippable cutscenes and walk and talk sections. No I don't want to escort a cart, no I don't care about the Handler and her connection with whoever that old lady was, no I'd rather explore this area on my own I don't need a tour.

I don't normally mind watching cutscenes and am rather patient when it comes to them but that aforementioned scene of the Handler and whats her face made me wish they were skippable. When I saw what they were trying to do I rolled my eyes so hard I saw my brain.

I went back to play MHGU recently and its so refreshing to just go on a hunt and not have your hand held the entire time or be interrupted by characters yapping in your ear.

I loved it, probably the best MH story we've had since MH4U. I think the issue is that new fans really have no attachment to the larger world of MH and it's history/characters. For them it's all just the "padding" to get to the gameplay, rather than these eagerly awaited new world details. Like as Gunlance main when we met Werner and they said that he played a part in the invention of the Wyvern's Fire technology, that was a super cool moment for me, because we really don't know much about the how the Guild re-invented the advanced tech weapons like the Switchaxe, Charge Blade, and Gunlance.

For me, I've been invested in this franchise for over a decade. For player's like me we got returning characters, regions that were mentioned in past titles but never expanded on, and tons of new environmental lore to pick up. We literally learn so much about the Wyverians in this game it made my head spin, they straight up revealed stuff we old fans thought could never possibly be canon. This is a MH fans MH game and new players are gonna find the story very hit or miss.

It's pretty bad. I got tired of seeing a prepubescent boy on my screen half the time so I started skipping the cutscenes.
I’ve been playing the Mh series since freedom unite on the vita, have always watched or read what little lore the series has… but holy smokes is the MH wilds story terrible, I finally gave in and started skipping cutscenes.

There wouldn't be a Problem if the story didn't suck this much.
It's funny because you'd think you could easily have monsters attacking the base camp and leading to epic battles, tragedies, and plot points, but instead... well, you know what we got.

At least in Rise there's base defence mechanics but there's no real sense of threat there.
