how does this "maki wants to offer you a free meal" stuff work ?

I have like a free meal offer in 2 or 3 villages and I can't find for the love of good find how to trigger it, maki and in the other villages the dudes who make the food are no where to be found, is that bugged or something ?

You basically go to their town, find them and then you get a meal similar to how you did in low rank quests.

There are specific portions of the questline where they won't be available (For example if you are in the perma "storm" section, the villagers typically aren't).

I believe some of them also aren't available at certain times of the day.

ya but in 90% of the cases they are just not inside the town to get the food when the map tells me about it

Please tell me you have found a solution for this awful quest design? I never thought a Japanese developer could surpass Elden Ring in terms of incompetency.

Maki doesn't want to serv meal she invited you for most of the time. First time I came dring Inclemency, she was watching lava and meal was marked with a red cross, second time during Plenty she was putting stone on Azuz and same, meal was crossed.

whether you see it as fortunate or unfortunate, but during the plenty period you can watch them harvest it all in just a few minutes, like, get up and afk while you grab some water and go to the bathroom and she'll probably be done by the time you get back, and she opens up meals once she finishes work, the offer lasts a fair bit so if you can wait you wont miss it and imho its the best feast buff in the game since it can double or even triple your carves so its less important to rest spam to find a good investigation for materials if you need monster parts

I have the same problem with her. No problem with Tasheen or the plain invitation.
When i try to look for her, i always found her in the "festival" animation rotation, like getting something out of her house, watching the eternal forge running or helping gathering metal.

Rest in your tent and change the weather to fallow and the time to morning, she'll be on the path leading up from the everforge talking to the older guy named Yabran. She'll still have the red X meaning you can't talk to her but if you talk to Yabran first you'll then be able to accept the meal from Maki. This is the fastest and most reliable way I've been able to get a meal from her.

It's very annoying because if the meal offer times out, the map doesn't actually update until you change zones, so you warp there and get baited endlessly.

there is currently a bug regarding maki. the invitation just disappears as soon as you go to azuz. the devs know about the issue, you can read it in their "known bugs" section on their website.

I don't think it actually vanishes, just the marker does. Or maybe i found a secondary bug? because when i got confused by this I just went and talked to him and he still gave me the meal even without the marker

(edit i say "him" because this happens with Y'sai to me and not maki)

I have problems with Y'sai. Everytime I get a meal from him, the storm is blazing hard. Usually I just save my game and return to title and it's gone though.
