I might have figured out how to get HDR working perfectly...
I’ve already set up Auto HDR for Windows 11 through the Microsoft Store app, "Windows HDR Calibration" via "System > Display > Color management" to optimize my monitor’s display. After doing so, I found that the following steps worked perfectly to enable HDR specifically for Monster Hunter Wilds.

Here’s a detailed guide based on my experience:

  1. Locate the Game Folder: Open your Steam library folder. By default, this is typically found at C:\Program Files\(x86)\Steam\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds. If you’ve installed Steam or the game on a different drive, navigate to the corresponding path where your Steam games are stored.

  2. Find the Executable File: Inside the MonsterHunterWilds folder, look for the file named MonsterHunterWilds.exe. Right-click on this file. (Note: Some systems may not display the .exe extension depending on your File Explorer settings, but it’s still the correct executable file.)

  3. Access Properties: From the right-click context menu, select Properties to open the file’s settings window.

  4. Go to the Compatibility Tab: In the Properties window, click on the Compatibility tab located at the top. This section allows you to adjust settings that affect how the game runs on your system.

  5. Enable Legacy ICC Color Management: Scroll down to the Settings section within the Compatibility tab. Check the box labeled Use legacy display ICC color management. This option ensures the game uses an older, potentially more compatible color profile system, which can resolve HDR-related issues.

  6. Save Changes: Click Apply at the bottom of the window to save your changes, then click OK to close the Properties window.

  7. After applying these steps, Monster Hunter Wilds should properly utilize HDR on your setup, assuming Auto HDR is already enabled in Windows 11. This worked seamlessly for me—let me know if you run into any issues!

If you have a freesync monitor try disabling it in the monitor settings. I manage to enable HDR in my Samsung G7 after disabling it. I'm running W11 with an AMD 7900 XTX GPU

Yes the game's native HDR is dogshite like all RE Engine games.

But nah...I've got direct jxr comparison shots between AutoHDR and RTX HDR in bright as well as low light scenario and they look pretty much identical. Close enough that no one will be able to tell them apart easily. The difference is RTX HDR will come at the cost of performance while AutoHDR won't and at the end of the day it isn't "real HDR" either as it's just a post process filter. See for yourself

Now Special K, yea it can do "Real HDR" remaster but unless you fiddle around with the values (which most people won't be able to get right) it ends up looking like ♥♥♥♥ at default setting in this game (way too much black crush and overblown whites) and it costs performance as well.

Can clarify a few things regarding your screenshot:

In-game HDR disabled
AutoHDR and HDR enabled (force auto HDR)
Any other settings or apps you're using? It appears your colors pop a little bit more.
Only thing I've done in addition to ICC Color Management and Forcing Auto HDR is going through the game's brightness calibration setup to do what it wants you to do i.e. adjust the sliders until the first two comparison sets (for max and minimum brightness) blend in, and adjusting the slider until the left image is barely visible in the 3rd image set. This is the game's SDR calibration mode but since you have AutoHDR on you will end up using a different value in the sliders based on what you see on your monitor.

So turn off HDR In game? Auto HDR only converts SDR to HDR when HDR is turned off in game.
The in-game HDR is horribly washed-out when compared to SDR. This isn't an issue with any other game I've tried with HDR. AutoHDR is definitely better here.

I've tested this extensively with both non-HDR and HDR settings, tweaking the monitor configuration until it looks absolutely stunning. The colors now perfectly match the game's color profile according to the calibration spider. Enjoy!

This doesn't quite work. I didn't see any changes. As well, characters faces will still remain having a smeared appearance with HDR on.

Native HDR works fine but ingame catibration tool is just garbage, worth a try fiddeling with sliders

Used conjunction with post 7 to verify with the slider to get working.
