On the other hand, if a plain girl falls down in front of me, I'd probably just walk the other way.
Note that the same logic also applies to handsome vs unkempt guy.
In a world where even a low tier monster such as a Bulldrome could wipe an entire village pretty easily, having to wait for authorization because muh poachers is incredibly silly and has always been.
People excuse it because « muh lore » and don’t try to think about it any more than just that.
This entire authorization thing also completly falls apart from the moment that i can go out of my way , in game , to kill every monster i see that aren’t related to the quest im currently doing.
World Handler becomes 1000% better with a mod makeover.
.....here we go again...
So, the reason why they're called quests, and the hunter ranks and so on with the lore framing, is that you're completing requests from other people. This is more obvious in the previous games where it showed the request, like "Oh no, there's this stinky ape thing sitting on my Valento White Bag, please kill it so that I don't have to double-check the spelling on that dead meme, hunter!".
This doesn't cover just leaving camp and throwing down with something close by, sure, but then you also can literally replay every single quest. So this is more of an example of Story and gameplay separation, but then we're all bumping a thread where the twelve year old called a woman a cook, so I doubt this logic will work, either.
The real reasons are that the Hunter's Guild are regulating what happens. This reason alters per game, but similarly to World, we're in a region that's not fully understood, and only move to act if there's endangerment to life, or if it is seen as necessary. After all, we don't want to overhunt something to extinction, or turn another grasslands into a vast desert. Again...
You're not getting drops from a monster you don't met the required rank for is a gameplay balance thing, but it's covered in the story as "you're wasting the guild resources, supply chain, training and your literal job to go slap something for the sake of making that build you googled off of Twitter without playing the key quests, dingus".
It's only apparent in this game given that the hub is no longer physically separated from the zones, as it's always been. But yeah, outside of key story reasons, there's always been the usual suspects running, pooping and roaring out there, and we've always needed authorisation to act.
After all, we're hired pest control, effectively. It doesn't matter if the "pests" are multi ton enigmas of biology, or the can of raid is a story tall metal paddle posing as a sword, but hey, it's still a job we're paid to do.
As for the thread...
Do I mention that there's been a muppet in every game that's triggered something going south extremely rapidly over something utterly dumb?
2) Hunters are respected, and just like in the real world it takes permits and training to take lives. So it makes sense that you want checks and balances to make sure someone else agrees with you killing the thing before you run off and do it. I really loved this change actually.
3) I don't think she is trying to be condescending, and I think that the English dub does her a great disservice. She has been there for years at this point and personally picked you to lead the expedition into the White Wraith. She really admires and respects your character !
4) I think that her anthropological relic that almost got smashed was purely there for character development, and was never intended to be a story point or pusher. I really felt for her in that moment. It's supposed to be like if you had a collectible or something else expensive you really prize be stolen/taken hostage from you in front of you - I'd be shocked too.
I am not really sure I understand all of the Alma hate. She is the first female character in MH that I LOVE! She is kind and confident when need be. She is a great buffer between the hunter and Nata - it's great that canonically the hunter is super awkward with kids.
I hear most people talking about the 3d models between her and Gemma and that topic really icks me, but to be honest if we were talking about real world women I don't think people would be talking like that so openly and hurtfully so that kind of sucks to see on here too. Not saying that's what you were talking about of course, but I know that's a part of the discourse.
On most of the hunts the extra person tagging along is there for the "seikret resupply". Later in the story Alma is off doing something else and you get stuck with Erik filling in.
Idk, I'd be her bestie so that's my essay on it xD
Just to be clear... in EVERY cutscene she makes all the decisions. She not only declares what we're going to do, but what we like or don't like, what is or isn't going to happen... she acts like she speaks on our behalf in all contexts. And when we're going from A to B or on a quest we can't even step away without being chastised and told to go back to her. Our hunter is obviously more knowledgeable in matters of danger, combat, etc than Alma, but we're not allowed to even SUGGEST that we might take another route because it might be quicker, safer, more productive or whatever. We're lower than even a dog to us. We're just playing Alma's accessory, basically.
About the only counterpoint is that frankly our hunter acts the same way when they get to speak for themselves. It was particularly damning after I beat Squidward and the game made my Hunter chastise Werner for bugger knows what stupid reason. He did absolutely nothing wrong but apparently my Hunter was irritated that he helped people by fixing a thing and something we couldn't have predicted happened as an accidental side-effect. I wanted to step in and defend Werner against my own damned hunter... Definitely jarring.
I reckon Alma looks far better than Gemma (Gemma's hair is an utter crapheap)... but yeah, that is kinda beside the point. Her behaviour is inexcusable, even if she looks cute.
I actually agree with you a lot.. I was able to kinda ignore her until I got to High Rank.. Her ***EVERY TIME WITH OUT FAIL*** "A tempered monster! Look at the size of that scar!!" every single monster!! Like damn someone make a mod that sets her voice only to 0.
The does the exact same thing worlds handler does that people hated. "Hunter *WE* have to go deal with this." *YOU* hunt the monster. "Good job Hunter *WE* did it." Like no the hell you didnt. I did it. Just cause you put 2 fire ferns in my pouch doesnt mean youre helping. And dont even get me started on the kid....
I love the hunting part of wilds, I love the food changes, and having the villages gather stuff for me too.. But damn if everything else isnt just annoying as all hell....
