I saw someone saying this is a trans character. I was immediately suspicious, and I went to look up some English gameplay. Sure enough, the voice in English sounds very feminine. The voice actor is Casey Mongillo, a non-binary who uses they/them pronouns. Based on Casey's voice and appearance, I say this is a biological woman, and she was recruited to voice Erik because of course they have to shove their activism into everything. In Japanese, it is very obvious by the voice that Erik is male. He is a typical Japanese pretty boy. These characters are quite common in Japanese entertainment, and there is no agenda here on the part of the creators. My recommendation is to play this game in Japanese with subtitles. The original Japanese dub will always better capture the intentions of the creators, especially if you know a little bit of Japanese.

Edit: It is clear to me that a lot of people are not actually READING the original post before they comment. Keeping up with this thread is exhausting, and I grow tired of correcting those with low reading comprehension. I am unsubscribing from this discussion. Knock yourselves out.

I want to just enjoy video games as well, but that's kind of difficult when games these days are stuffed full of activism and real world issues. The point of this thread was to tell people who think Erik is someone on the rainbow spectrum that he is just a typical pretty boy character and there's nothing weird going on with him.

Honestly, I felt the voice acting was chosen to make him sound a little more frail and bookish, you know, emphasizing the scholar aspect in comparison to a hunter. I thought they did a good job.

Why are we talking exactly though? I disagree. If a game is created by Japanese developers, then the original Japanese experience is logically the intended version in my personal opinion.

i mean i understand that from your pov but that's why Capcom and any other company in the last century pretty much want to sell products all round the world. if it wasn't intended to be played in another language it wouldn't be available as such. i get people preferring one or the other though. Like personally the amount of Japan-isms in Persona just sound kinda weird in English but equally to each their own

I was playing with the English dubbing and Erik was obviously a man despite his weird voice, no idea how anybody else could've thought different, get your eyes checked.

I've spent enough time in this thread. I'm going to go make some dinner and then play Dragon Quest XI while I wait for Capcom to roll out optimization updates. Hoping I can someday turn on high res textures again, because the game does look better with them, but performance suffers horribly.
