So let's talk about that Erik character . . .
I saw someone saying this is a trans character. I was immediately suspicious, and I went to look up some English gameplay. Sure enough, the voice in English sounds very feminine. The voice actor is Casey Mongillo, a non-binary who uses they/them pronouns. Based on Casey's voice and appearance, I say this is a biological woman, and she was recruited to voice Erik because of course they have to shove their activism into everything. In Japanese, it is very obvious by the voice that Erik is male. He is a typical Japanese pretty boy. These characters are quite common in Japanese entertainment, and there is no agenda here on the part of the creators. My recommendation is to play this game in Japanese with subtitles. The original Japanese dub will always better capture the intentions of the creators, especially if you know a little bit of Japanese.

Edit: It is clear to me that a lot of people are not actually READING the original post before they comment. Keeping up with this thread is exhausting, and I grow tired of correcting those with low reading comprehension. I am unsubscribing from this discussion. Knock yourselves out.

Not reading all of any comments, so just gonna leave my 2 cents here: Lotta male characters are voiced by females. A voice actor doesn't make a character. If they're male, female, non-binary, trans or otherwise, as long as they're good for the role, that's basically all that matters. Who cares who's voicing who? Bart Simpson is voiced by Nancy Cartwright and has been for decades. But since you seem to be taking the "Japan would never go down that route" argument, Goku and Luffy are both voiced by a female in Japan. Same with Krillin.

regardless of any agenda, i thought the voice acting for that character was actually decent, especially compared to the other characters
That's cause Erik's voiced by the english dub actor for Shinji in Neon Genesis and Chilchuck from Delicious in dungeon. They have quite the impressive portfolio.
This got me to look up Casey Mongillo. Dude literally looks like Erik.

So a guy that looks like Erik, and who has played Erik-like characters, was cast to voice Erik. And they did a good job. It's almost as if the casting decision was based on his extensive acting career and not his demographic.

uhhh, 'ow you say... le wokisma, du pronouns
First off I think this Casey person is male to female, not the otherway around.

Second, did we all forget that Goku was voiced by a woman?
Ash ketchum too!
A lot of male characters were voiced by women, it's not who voices the character that should bother you, it is whether whoever voiced the character did a good job.
I the case of Erik, I think this Casey dude did a good enough job. Erik sounds like an effeminate guy, and looks the part too. So what's the issue?
It's not like capcom is selling you hormone replacement for your kids because of this Casey person. So calm down and pick your fights better.
Who cares? He's ugly as ♥♥♥♥ tho

Casey is non binary!

Why do you people hate trans people so much? I've never seen a reason other than that they're out of the ordinary. It really bothers me.
If you have to ask that question, then you are not paying attention to what trans people are doing. They are hated for good reasons.

I don't feel like reading through 23 pages of braindead takes in a thread the OP couldn't handle having their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ called out in. did we ever get an answer this question? or just the usual vague conspiratorial witch-hunt ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they've been saying about everyone in the lgbt+ spectrum?

Eric just feels like a Eccentric young anime male.
Monster hunter is a Japanese game and androgynous young guys are not uncommon in those.
But i could be wrong until we get an official statement on if he is trans or not this is just my conclusion from years of experience consuming Japanese media.

The character itself in game isn't trans, they refer to him as a him and he never disputes that once in game. He is a very danger prone ecological expert it seems who gets lost in though and just approaches monsters and dangerous situations that's about it lol

The voice actor who voices him is appernetly a they/them from my understanding what ever that exactly means lol not my scene but I show basic decency to fellow humans not my business.

This is the exact crap people talk about that it isn't enough to merely not bring it into games, these people's mere existence and in this case employment is all it takes. Disgusting to have this lvl of behavior over the mere fact the VA has a life and job, not bothering anyone did "force it into game" but its still not enough. Seriously who cares lol these people get to have lives to dammit!

Frankly it really just sounds like attempts at cultural capture.
This.

It is standard japanese character archetype you can find in almost every single manga and anime.
Erik is a guy ? Dont really look like it and why make a big deal about it

I don’t see why you’re so confused. He is a guy which is confirmed by devs. He looks and sounds like a typical pretty boy. This thread should not be as long as it is.
