Why is my health bar only half full?
I was fighting poison spider thing but my health bar couldn’t heal past half way. Was I poisoned? Will it go away eventually?

you need to eat a well-done steak or go to the kitchen.

It drops gradually over time

It will increase your max health more

Oh ok, I had one earlier but not for that fight. So you can only get a full hp bar after a meal?

Meals help with different buffs like damage or resistance.
Well-done steak raises your maximum health and Stamina for a while but it can start dropping over time.

Going to the kitchen getting a meal is best when you are going for a hunt.
(if you are low on cash you can make your own meals but you will need ingrediens)

Meals last much longer but has a cooldown
Well-done steaks last slightly shorter but you can eat as many as you want

Well-done steaks can also max your health up you don't need to eat a meal

I enjoy the free form hunting where we can go in and out whenever, but the lack of a canteen makes it hard to remember when I should eat. I only bring out the portable spit when I see my max health go down and sometimes that'll be in the middle of a fight.

The well done steaks look like the same time of 30mins. After eating well done steaks look press hold LB and look top left icon timer. The buff timer actually is totally different than grill meal timer that you check from inside a tent. But do these stack!? Max hp stack or no??? Does grill meal and well done steaks stack!?

Your HP bare AND Stamina bar slowly lower their Max over time, the only way to keep those up is to eat and or drink.

Personally i uusally flex on the monster by setting up a BBQ grill next to it mid fight and just speed cooking food before continuing to fight

Hi,

you can use your portable grill to make meals whenever, even mid fight.. alternatively, at your tent you can cook whatever you'd like.

As others mentioned, there are a multitude of different buffs.

The portable grill is helpful, incase your meal buffs go away midfight, or mid expedition or w.e.

Hope this helps,
Staple of the series. Your stamina degrades the longer you're out and about, and eating a meal buffs your health and stamina as well as additional effects based on what you selected. While you can just eat using the portable BBQ, you also have more options. I wasn't aware well done steaks also boosted HP now, but they used to be just for stamina. But beyond that change, there's Max and Ancient potions that will also grant the "full" HP and stamina limits as if you had eaten.

This has been covered in the tutorial, but given as people can disable or skip it, I can see how it could have been missed.
