It is concerning though, that according to the executive director there was more of a focus on the story this time around, and yet it has managed to become even more corny if anything. Perhaps the whole thing with Nays is supposed to be emotional? But I doubt anyone actually cares about it.

Why is it concerning? They took a severely under-developed part of Monster Hunter nobody actually cares about anyway and took a chance to experiment with it. “ITS CORNY THOUGH!!” So? If it bothers you that much then it’s a good thing it’s the tutorial for the actual game and you’ll never have to do it again lmao
yeah! Master Rank with fix the garbage writing and everything else!

It's a Japanese developer=) They are incapable of writing anything other than cheesy dialogue or melodramatic laughable "seriousness". I wish they could be more serious for once, without all the talking cats and goofiness. Just came from FF7 and I'm trapped in ANime hell=)

If yes, you never paid attention to the writing.
If no, welcome.
That doesn't excuse it...

The story is bad, period. Nata worst NPC. It's a HUGE waste of resources for Capcom. Resources they could have put into other more important parts of the game.
MH should have never gone past "a big monster threatens village. kill it." that's it. none of this other garbage.

Then you're not the target audience.

Bye bye. Have fun playing CoD or Fortnite.

normally you just ignore the story and kill monsters. But Nata is so freaking annoying and crying in like 75% of his scenes that you cant ignore it. Its cancer.....

idk whats with the hate for the story in this game, i thought it was good for what it was. A monster hunter story. Finding out about Arkveld made him more interesting as a monster, ad the whole idea of guardians invites in SO many new or returning monsters, I think it's a great setup for an expansion too or further title updates. (provided the gimmick is continued, and not dropped like with rampages in rise)
and for once, my hunter felt like a part of it instead of a silent watcher just being handed quests and you just nod along, you also get to actually see the importance of handlers and what they do instead of it happening off screen somewhere.
ppl doesnt have issue with arkveld its Nata lmao

I don't get that either! He's a child with unhandled trauma, and he just got dropped into an expedition to find the very thing that attacked his home, he's going to lash out. And then eventually he finds some kind of connection and understanding with the monster after discovering the truth and learning about the world only for you to be forced to put it down.

lol what

I think been corny is the entire point of the story, western aimed monster hunters are 90s levels of writing and always have been.

It's the mainland aimed offshoots that hammer the darker themes and nuanced stories.

MH was never about the story...
But if it gonna be this bad, then please let us go back to the OG's "story" telling instead.

Atleast the old version wasn't this intrusive and cringe.

In 20 years no one has played monster hunter for the story, except a very specific type of person, you know who I'm talking about. The kind that requires their school to install a litterbox for their unique, special, and quirky personality.

If you want a story, go read a book. Dostoevsky will change your life if you pay attention.

i'm reading this thread because i'm bored and i just think it's incredibly funny that you think people actually want/require a litterbox or something at school
You play MH for Food cravings and Monsters. Story has always been a slog.

yea its corny, but its a pretty big step up from when i played tri "save village from mosnter! oh no, it was actually other monster that was real threat all along! You defeated the elder dragon and saved the village, huzzah!" and they all lived happily ever after
Kiririn Mar 29 @ 8:39pm
If you meant "big step down" then I agree.
