Oh, and speaking of tracers, those things are straight up insane. You don't even need to aim at the monster, because they will home in on the tracers. Bow is OP, and anyone calling it bad clearly don't know how to use it at all.
Bow isn't my type of weapon at all. In fact, I always sucked at using it, but even someone like me can see it's just straight up busted. I even used a LR bow against a HR Rompopolo at one point, and it got deleted. Sure, Rompopolo isn't the strongest monster, but the fact that a LR weapon can take out a HR monster without much effort speaks volumes.
I soloed the Gravios down and Captured it... all before the others could deal with the Guardosh.... THEN I ran down and capped that too.
Can definitely confirm that Bow is insanely powerful... doubly so if it is a Water Bow with Pierce Coatings against Gravios (basically the most unbalanced match-up ever).
People need to understand that monster hunter range works as follows:
Close range = Right up in the monster's grundle
Long range = within smelling distance of close range
But my take on bow is my same take on Dual blades. Having safe dodges and hitting a lot is the main source of damage. But if you know your elements, and how to build properly around your playstyle and weapon, then those many small hits become many medium hits.
Pair that with survivability from the dodges, and reliably landing your skills, and it can be better than a greatsword which can easily get smacked while preparing a massive hit.
How about blast coating? Anything it won't work against?
Only when you've found that information against the monster. I was wondering about those I haven't encountered yet.
Also, how does monster research even work now? There are no monster tracks to find unlike in World.
Bro, bows have always been a very popular speedrun weapon and for good reason, they just keep getting stronger and stronger and wilds is no different and also yes, being able to stand a little bit further away than melee weapons actually does make bow a whole lot safer, you can generally position yourself in such a way that a monster cannot hit you without moving first, while still being within critical distance.

You can anticipate moves much better, you have a much better view of the entire scene and the move he's about to make. Damage is easier negated when you can actually see whats about to happen. Bow feels much better to play with as in world I feel where I got often locked into an animation and couldnt change aim direction anymore neither. The auto lock with tracers also feels really good.
That's some DSP-caliber logic. Don't need to be " at arms length " to do optimal damage, so stop using close range coatings. The continuous damage from arc shot to apply tracers, then abusing focus strike targets all tracers applied from arc shot when there are no weak points to abuse.
Using Tracers with thousand dragons is good too. I am finding myself out DPSing people I'm playing with especially as I can keep DPS up on the move and have very little downtime. Saying bows suck only proves how bad your are at the game.
