Why is bow damage so low?
I noticed in other Monster Hunter games as well, that the bow seems to have the lowest damage output. I personally find it the most alluring weapon and always want to use it, but it sucks. Am I doing something wrong or does the bow just suck?

Bow is like the single highest damage weapon in Wilds, wut?

The thing with ranged weapons is that in the start they look bad. But once you get your decoration in place and use the right bow for the job, you start to deal A LOT of damage.

If the damage is low you are not using it the right way because it's insane

bow is never a raw physical damage weapon. just keep playing until you can get elemental damage, then you'll see how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ op it is
it's a strong weapon. But I can't deny that the damage cap of bow feels not right in this game at least without bow charge plus skill for now. We used to shred absolute hardest monster in 2 mins which seems impossible now. Especially, while we excel at elemental attacks, one monster that you need to farm in endgame has very bad elemental HZV. Not to mention, sometimes you still get ailments after successful discerning dodge. Compared to other weapon speedrun, bow seems falls behind others.
Bro is calling bow "low damage" lmao

the ranged weapons will usually have the lower dmg cause you're trading the dmg for the safety of ranged combat.

Nothing safe about having to stand at arms length to the target to even do optimal damage. Bows have always sucked period. No sane person will ever just main a bow.

ouch as a Bow main it hurts like dragon piercer xD

yea, spamming dragon piercer is probably highest dps ingame right now lol.

Having properly tried out the bow in this game now, I am DESTROYING monsters with it. Dragon piercer is great, and if you manage to launch several arc shots on a monster, your special weak point attack will fire arrows at a crapload of locations at once doing massive damage.

And the fact that you seem to get an actual guard point when doing the charging dodge is very nice too.
Between pierce shots, dragon piercer, and the vastly extended dodge window... bow is easily one of, if not the, best weapons for anything larger than the fire chicken. One dragon piercer, and you've already done more damage that the full combo of a greatsword + its true charge slash, in only a fraction of the time.

As a bow main, it might be the lowest on visible damage numbers - especially at the start, but it is still a fantastic weapon and can clear through monsters pretty easily once you adjust to how it plays. Make sure to learn each monsters weak points and get familiar with the bow's combos and charge-damage.

The bow is not only fast damage with multiple hits per shot, but it's also extremely mobile and can stack on additional damage utilizing coatings - which are unlimited in Wilds. Take advantage of poison and blast coatings to deal additional damage by simply continuing to fight. Use paralysis and exhaust coatings to safely execute high-damage combos where you stay in one place to target the weak points of the monster easier. Pierce coatings for heavily-armored monsters like Gravios. Close and power coatings for an extra pop of damage output depending on your positioning.

Compared to World, the bow is fully solo-viable in Wilds without a lot of struggle which is a massive improvement. They made the combos a lot more fluid and the unlimited coatings have let the bow reach its full potential instead of being heavily limited by inventory caps that required constant camp revists.

Maybe it's just me but I'm going to go and say it... Dragon Piercer should be your main attack.
