What weapon do I pick?
Am I supposed to pick a specific weapon for each monster or just the one I like for everything?

Is dual blades good?

Really up to you. Majority usually stick to one weapon to master. However, with wilds you can have two on your mount altogether. So, recommend just using whatever you enjoy and going from there

I would just go for the one that you prefer or think of as being cool.

They're all different, try them all, you're never locked into the weapon choice you picked, you can always change it around whenever you want.

Try them all, then settle with the one that best suits your playstyle.
Weapon type comes down to personal preference. You can upgrade each weapon type to also deal different kinds of elemental damage, which different monsters can be stronger or weaker against, but otherwise all weapons are viable.

Every weapon works fine. Some wepaons may be better against some monsters, so keeping a couple of options around is good.

Personally I enjoy Lance + Light Bowgun
In addition to what the first poster said, you probably want to make sure your two weapon types cover entirely different situations.

A common combo is a greatsword and a hammer; similar playstyles, but one is sharp and can sever parts and cut right through soft-skinned creatures, while the other can crack armor plates on parts that can't really be cut.

Alternatively, take a ranged weapon as your back-up if your primary is melee; some enemies spend almost their entire time in the air, and you can only bring so many flashbombs with you to knock them out of the sky.

I personally like dual blades, it fast pace attacks. You have to utilize dodging over guarding which to me is a plus, and latching onto wounds is pretty nice with that weapon.
It simple to learn. But play around with the weapons. It just takes time.
Also i'd consider your 2nd weapon to be range (mine bow). Sometimes distance is just your friend.

i main the dual-blades, and its very very fun, the attack patterns often throw me away from in-coming attacks for free :D

I use the double daggers as main weapon and have the longsword as secondary. Since i am playing with M&K and not like the majority with controller i have only problems with focus-lock so each time i used heavy weapon, a smashed 3-4 times next to the monster before i can turn around and get closer again.
Some people grab one weapon and stick with it forever. Some monsters are harder with certain weapons bit its usually far from impossible. Personally I’m a charge blade main but I can use a longsword if necessary. Although it rarely is
