With due respect to fans, can someone explain to me why to change armor?
Except some of it has rarity '1' or '2' or whatever, I just don't get how perks can justifiy changing armor. 5% more damage if you cut it from stance... you can eat mushrooms.. you have extra buff to damage if you die once during mission.. can devs come up with more useless bonuses? I mean if it's MH trying into RPG (I've not played previous MH installments) then it's just insanely bad. Weapons are actually different, but armour... what the hell.

Also, did armour always look like you wear actual trashcan in MH franchise? I've seen one guy commenting that armour looks terrible in this series and didn't quite believe him. But it actually does.

Armour comes a lot more into play in late game (High Rank, Master Rank etc.) when you'll want to match extra perks to the build you're using and the monster you're hunting. For just the main story in base game you'll just want to upgrade periodically for the stat boosts.

But I don't get then, if you hunt different monsters, you always gotta change your armor? What a pain in the ass.

If you don't enjoy the gameplay loop (Killing monsters and upgrading your equipment) you are playing the wrong game. "What a pain in the ass" Uh huh

I mean you are having fun when you change your armor one by one looking through 30 sets to match a specific hunt for 10 minutes, after which you do it again? Hell this sounds like fun.

Believe it or not, armor used to look so good in mhgu and people begged for transmog to be added. Since then it became a staple to the series.

Also armor skills, especially damage related ones, make a huge difference in late high rank. In low rank you can just wear whatever and it doesn't matter

Like others said it becomes a lot more important later when you actually have enough slots and variety to min max your build. Right now just grab extra items from plants/rocks buff and don't worry about it.

You don't have to. If you find a set, or mix of sets, that gives you the skills you want, you can just carry that set thru to the end. You will likely have to replace pieces as you enter master rank as they are much better in terms of armor and skills available, but unless you play a ton of different weapons there really is no need for a ton of different armor load outs.

Why would I be doing any of that right now for low rank?
I'm only going to make specific armour sets for specific monsters at like.... end of High Rank? Maybe even Master Rank.

Right now you just want the highest defense all the time with the most appropriate armour skills. Hell I could kill most of these monsters naked.

If you're trying to gain an edge in hunts then armor isn't going to be the place to do it. At least not this low level. There's a big wall in MH games for new players, and all you can do is adapt and try to get over it. There's a lot of auxiliary tools you could try to utilize like flashpods, item buffs and environment damage. But other than that, it's mostly just face to face with a monster much stronger than you, and you just keep trying until you win

Uninstall the game and play something else. I'm sick and tired of pretending the community would benefit from not gatekeeping people like you. Out with you, shoo.

I need to unfortunately not oblige with your opinion. So I'm staying and keep critisizing.

You're "criticizing" the game for making you change armor... After asking about when you'd change armor. You are not making a fair criticism. This makes me suspicious that you're just baiting. But I'll answer in case other people are legitimately searching for answers.

You'd change armor because:
A: better stats
B: looks cooler
C: skills
D: deco slots

You can save sets to easily swap to later. For example, when fighting a poison monster, you can make a set that makes you resist poison blight.

Like every other jrpg that exists, you get better armor as you go.

Most armor in low rank have mediocre skills, because it's low rank. For one, they don't want to overload you with skills, you're meant to understand the game first. For two, rpgs don't give you strong equipment out the gate in general to give the impression of progression.

Likewise, you also just do not understand why the skills are useful. You don't only fight monsters in the game. For example, one of the skills you're dismissing, Mushroomancer, gives additional heal and buff items. Google the skill, you'll find a lot of people enjoying it and making sets for it. It's quite underrated. This is a typical issue with casuals and newcomers who are only looking for higher damage numbers over actual strategies and preservation. It's like Pokémon newcomers who don't realize how good status moves are and have a kit of only attack moves lol.

If you dislike the appearance of the armor, keep an eye on Nexus. Many people create armor mods. But usually the "cooler" sets are reserved for later monsters. Though you're in the minority. I quite enjoy my chicken hat, but to each their own.
