This is NOT open world
I spent almost 2 hours playing the game (minus the 30 mins it took for shaders to optimize) and the whole time has been spent talking to NPCs or following them. This is horrible. I've had the chance to hunt one thing. No options to explore or even do what I want. If we are supposed to suffer through a story to experience what the game has to offer, at least make it interesting. So far its been a guided tour and has been no fun at all.

ya it's super jarring how when you start a quest in the open world it teleports you back to the base and then right back into the open world. wish it was seamless

They never said it was open world. They said it was open zone. Not the same thing.
It absolutely is lol. You just have to get farther into the story. I can walk out of the desert and go to any other Biome on foot (or mount) with no loading screens.
The devs never said it was open world.
They point blank said they weren't really thinking about whether or not they were making an open world, and that there's and argument it could be but also that it's not

Man, I just can't justify the almost 2 hours I spent playing being dominated by NPCs. I requested a refund because there is a 2 hour time limit to do so and 25% of that was eaten up by the 30-minute shader optimization. If it does open up, I'll never know because the entire time I had to play was almost entirely NPC interactions.

"Follow me here for no reason". Like, why? Let me go explore. I'm pretty sure I can find my way there lol
you can skip the voice acting and just read and all cinematics are skippable, sounds like you didn't care for the story anyway.

You can't skip all the "slowly follow the NPC" sections, unfortunately.

They never said open, they said seemless,
it sounds like you kept doing story quests and refused to explore... Stop, just explore. its right there, after you do that story quest, do not do another story quest. You can do what you want, but you have to actually do that, not just keep spamming story quest and keep getting pulled in.

It is not open world and neither is that a bad thing. If you want open world play one of the million Ubisoft games (or any other game that came out in the past 10 years).

The game has issues but certainly not this.

If you waited 30 minutes to compile shaders you have a bad PC. I'd be complaining about the the bad performance instead of open world.
Therefore, you're lying.

bro didnt even get out of the tutorial lol. the entire story itself is like 10 hours long. then everything is completely open basically. people have no patience anymore. Also, you can explore... vs doing story quests constantly which is apparently what you were doing. and later, if you would chill the f out...you can launch optional quests/expeditions/roam the world freely/hunt whatever you want when you want, hunts spawn randomly in zones and certain mobs will spawn during a certain in game time/weather event etc..

Edit: i hope they deny your refund. You are missing out due to your impatience. it really is a fun/good game.

You have to get farther into the game the story in monster hunter is very linear once you beat it the world opens up and you now play the game. Monster hunter is not like most games.
