Monster Hunter Wilds

This is Dragons Dogma 2's launch all over again
Except on a much larger scale. I'd hoped that Capcom would have learned from the mistakes made from that game and made a more concerted effort to improve things this time around, especially for a series that went from a somewhat niche IP in the beginning (outside of Japan that is) to a flagship IP which now arguably could even supplant the Resident Evil series as Capcom's 'main' game series considering how well it is selling.

Monster Hunter World ran on the MT Framework engine and had good performance on pretty much everything, including handhelds like the Steam Deck. Whereas the two big game releases from Capcom recently - DD2 and this, run on the RE Engine and have had major performance issues for many.

Is it just that scaling the RE Engine from single player linear environments to vast open world ones isn't feasible for the engine? It certainly seemed that way in DD2. Or is it lack of funding or skill internally for proper troubleshooting and adapting the engine for open world use, and not the engine itself?

Is it the fault of lazy devs, slapping Frame Gen and DLSS on so they don't have to optimise better, or is it the fault of lazy/cheap heads of departments that won't give the developers enough time and resources simply because existing software such as Frame Gen and DLSS exist can do much of the heavy lifting?

Or is it that that people need to upgrade their potatoes so they no longer void their own warranty on their GPU's from turning them into BBQ Spits and cooking well done/burnt steaks just from playing the game?

Jokes aside I'm hoping they significantly invest into post launch support, since DD2 was abandoned fairly early on. The sales figures alone should warrant that at least.

Just to be clear, I've not had major performance issues myself, I was able to get an excellent rating on 4k Ultra settings at 60fps+ on the benchmark (RTX 4090), but the graphical improvement over World isn't major enough to warrant the specs that it does just to get it to run well, in my opinion. In addition many seem to be reporting a performance degradation from the Beta/benchmark. Is this likely due to the DRM protection, or something else?

And as someone who has played since the first PS2 game, seeing other hunters not being able to play/refunding due to performance issues, is a real shame to see, especially if they are new to the series and likely won't touch it again if they have a bad experience with Wilds.

P.s If you're on Nvidia make sure to update your graphics drivers as the newest version specifically includes support for Wilds.

It's actually worse than DD2 and at least DD2 looked really good and you could at the very least do something about the performance kill the NPCs lol.

Ah yes, the tried and tested DD2 city genocide route. It did actually work to improve frames lol. That feeling when the Dragonsplague actually helps you out

I remember it not being perfect, certainly. Especially in the beginning when it was a lazy port and they didn't bother to properly optimise it. However I don't recall it performing this badly for so many overall.

One can only hope that they can pull off the fantastic job they did turning World around from lazy PC port into something that could work even on a Steam Deck. I doubt it but I hope to see it.

I refunded when i remembered having hope for dragons dogma 2 performance and nothing ever was made. But if millions of people keep buying games delivered like this, they will just kee doing it. And its Capcom, for ♥♥♥♥ sake. How can a company like that not optimize the game? It is beyond me.

I don't know, it's not exactly like they're short of money. Plus a lot of Japanese have the whole honour thing, which follows them into the business world, where they are usually embarrassed if their product isn't up to scratch as it affects their public image or people's trust in them
It seems they either cannot code or refuse to optimise. This should be illegal and Steam should force them to half their price, if they are uncapable to push a project into production in a professional way, This goes for every AAA slop corporation out there. Standards not met? No full price.

I wouldn't be sitting here moaning if I wasn't waiting for the HD texture pack to download, lol. I actually tried to cancel it once I read it's bugged for many. However it's impossible to cancel, even if unticking it in the DLC section under properties. It's like an extra 65GB or so:theskull:

I concur. I'm starting to feel old, I'm a 90's kid and miss the times games had to, you know, work well on release. It seems in some ways things have gone backwards rather than forwards sadly. Have you noticed you don't really have game testers in the credits for many games anymore? That profession has almost gone it seems, as they can choose just not pay people, and instead patch things after release to save money.

I am running a Vega 64 card. It's old hardware yes but I could run both betas at 40-60 fps tweaking some settings.

And now release doesn't even launch when using DX12. I have to switch to DX11 and its the same all over again.

I bought Dragon's Dogma 2 on launch day and had the VERY SAME BUG. Which was fixed later on by a patch , way way later on , about 3 months after release. It's those fugging mesh shaders.

This time thankfully I borrowed the game from a friend's account and they won't see my money for now. This so fkin shameful , they knew about most bugs happening now from DD2 launch and they fixed nothing.

C-R-A-P-C-O-M

Pushing this ♥♥♥♥ because their fiscal year it's about to end , the very same reason they pushed DD2 earlier than they should. Gonna go play something made actually with love like KCD2 in the meantime.

Monster Hunter and DD were my favorite sagas but these fuggers , man..

How much longer are you going to limp along on that card? It isn't supported and just because you might be able to get it to work the blame is on you and not Capcom this time. Last driver update for that card was last October. I'm glad you didn't buy this and hopefully upgrade before you do.
