To be fair isnt it better the way it is now? theres more animations because the food changes depending on what you cooked, and its time based instead of hunt based, so 1 meal can last multiple hunts. I refuse to believe that people "liked" the other meal system because it was essentially a chore that u had to eat every single hunt.
Stop trolling, its bad, it feels bad, looks bad and is pointless. Why is there even a timer, its annoying mid hunt when it goes off.
You cant be saying that going to chef before every hunt was a fun experience lol. In this game sure, it will go off mid hunt at times but u can re-eat instantly if it does, and if it wears off mid fight it isnt in the middle of the fight that u made the meal during. You can dislike the game if u want lol, but the meal system is a weird thing to try and say somehow got worse compared to previous versions.
Also re: OP no I have not found a way to check food buffs either :((
Ingredients are more of a pain to get and there's hardly any bonuses or effects you can tailor tool for your specific build or current goal in mind. Can't make a meal that grants bonus research points for example. Or grants bigger booms if you're doing a siege quest.
I hated Dango in Rise but even that was better than what we have in Wilds. The animations seemed nice at first but it's just three core ingredients, four toppings and then a few reused add-ons, some of which are just reskins of each other, like honey and seed oil or herbs, chillies or truffles. It's not that interesting and you'll see all it has to offer within a few hours. At least the village meals are interesting (but honestly who watches these more than once? World, Rise or Wilds, you skip these anyway and Wilds makes you skip like twice instead of just once...)
There was nothing tedious about running to the canteen, sitting down, popping a gourmet voucher and then eating Veggies (L) if you were fighting something elemental or, or a Meat (L) if you weren't. It synergised with the quest by quest nature of the game which itself helped sychronise things like your farm and tailraider safari and eventually the steamworks. At least it did for me.
I had this thing going with friends where whoever posted the quest would use the gourmet voucher to pay for everyones meal, which I thought was fun and pretty unique to this game, which is also sadly gone now too.
Plus, meals in Wilds defaults to fish (defence) instead of attack or elemental resistances which are arguable the most useful. If you want a decent meal you have to wait for a random village to offer it and then you have to travel to the village and hunt down the NPC just to have the meal too, which is awful - they could at least have their own canteens or meal huts for you to run to instead of an NPC who might not even be accessible, behind invisible walls or something.
They really should have made those village meals simply be an invitation ticket you got as mail from random villagers every now and then, and you could just spend the ticket to enjoy a meal whenever you wanted at their meal hub. Gameplay should come before immersion or whatever else, I don't care if the NPCs are hiding in their house because of inclement weather.
I hope we get a proper canteen and meal system when they release the Hub in April, so we can go back to properly preparing for meals and using vouchers for the group, making prepping for big hunts and highly dangerous monsters part of the set up.
And also yeah, for them to update the game so you can actually see what food boosts do from the status menu, at least from villager meals, would be nice as well. Basic functionality, right?
Hover over an ingredient and at the bottom of the screen is the description.
also eating from NPCs that offer meals just has description of buffs without being able to figure out what they do!
Also eating is 1 billion % better in Wilds. You can just cook a full meal using your BBQ on the field LOL or go into a camp site and eat there. OMG SOOoooOO HArrDD....
