I just wanted to put in my 2 cents with what worked for me and my two other friends, we all have different mostly current AMD graphics cards.

At first the game crashed instantly on boot, putting it in compatibility mode with Windows 8 helped launch the game and could make it run without crashing but suffered from the flickering textures. Downloading the beta GPU driver 25.2.1 fixed it so we wouldn't crash launching without compatibility mode, and redownloading the shaders outside compatibility mode got rid of the flickering textures. It also boosted performance a noticeable amount.

Hope this helps and forgive me it was posted before, I didn't want to read 7 pages of comments to check but also wanted to share a fix that worked for me and my crew.

This driver is not available for RX 5XX series unfortunatly...
But it will probably help other people

Many of us have rx580s so the drivers wont install, but you do mention something interesting, now that we figured out a way to run the game without setting .exe to win compat, we may be able to install the shaders that way, and it wont show the flickering, that could be w hile it worked in beta.

Okay, so I tried to refund lol told them it worked in beta but not on release, steam didn't care 5 hours, took me almost an hour to install first shaders,(lik30 mins after that when restarting computer) then I spent the other 4 hours troubleshooting...

So I'll do a clean install, with steam.exe on compat mode, and the mhw .exe without compat mode... maybe that will fix the flickering...

I'll keep steam in compat, ..... oh man... everytime I change compat mode all my other games need to reinstall shaders as well... sigh... guess I'll try this though...

Clean install... steam compat mhw no compat

EDIT: you know what, now that I've uninstalled it, maybe a clean install will do the trick, I initially installed it from the pre load files, so I wont turn any compat mode on, both cmpat modes are off and I'm gonna do a new install

Not sure what part he's talking about, need him to be more specific. I'm reinstalling right now. Hopefully there was an issue with the pre load install.

If it helps anyone, I had the same issue but it was fixed.

Initial state: ran compatibility mode for windows 8 for MHWilds.exe, after optimising shaders and finally managing to load to the menu, the issues of flickering rocks were there from the start.

Final state: Untick compatibility mode for MHWilds.exe (only after shaders were optimised) and managed to load into the game w/o flickering rocks.

TLDR: Untick Compatibility mode for MHWilds once shaders are optimised. Don't touch anything until it loads to the main menu, otherwise you risk crashing.

For the people that found a solution, I think it will help all of us to mention which GPU you are using and which amd driver version.

How did you do that?
I try that too but it just compile the shader again (and crash)

Uh if it's a hardware instruction the devs put there that the GPU doesn't have, hence why you crash on startup without comparability mode, then it's not a bug. On startup a program should load all of its libraries into memory first or link to them.

Windows 8 compatibility mode is using the old display system in Windows and that's why you are getting past the crash. But that means that the instruction or API call isn't important if the game otherwise runs and the devs can remove it.

BUT the devs may not do that because it means they will have to work on their engine.

We need to know exactly why they put the cut off at AMD RX 5000 series. If they did that because of something stupid like a lighting or scatter effect, then that would be a pretty dumb and ridiculous reason to do so and I think a sensible dev team would simply remove it or make it optional.

Of course they might say they won't do it because your hardware isn't supported. If they say that then make sure you keep that in mind when you use your wallet.

And one thing to keep in mind if hardware isn't supported on the minimum requirements, it means a future patch can completely stop you from playing the game even if the driver is patched to allow you to play

No sens, most people bought the game after trying their benchmark ! if i have an old GPU and run their benchmark and result say "GOOD" why then should be MY FAULT for purchase the game? i have an RX Vega 56 got a good result in benchmark and now on game realese i have flickering textures rocks/terrains. Benchmark was OK can't say the same about the game realesed

Sup ! I Do have the same GPU as yours, RX Vega 56 . I'll ping you if i find a way to make it work properly w/o the flickering !
I have the same problem with flickering but I am playing in Asus Rog Ally X... why for some people works and doesn't work for other asus rog ally x users? I follow the same configuration but the game is flickering... feels frustrating....
I had two issues which I both fixed
(1) Game crashed on start-up
(2) Graphics flickered after issue one was fixed.
PC Specs-
CPU 12 Gen Intel(R) Core i5-12400F
Ram- 15.85 GB
GPU- AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT
VRAM- 7.93 GB
GPU- 25.2.1
DirectStorage- CPU

To fix issues
(1) Changed compatibility to windows 8 mode. Game started up, loaded shaders and textures.
- Ran into issue 2.
(2) To fix issue 2, went to AMD and got the optional driver update.
- Launched game
- Game started, loaded shaders and textures.
- Ran into issue 1 again.
Disabled compatibility with windows 8,
- Issue 1 & 2 solved!
I have seen flickering but only very little, do not believe any placebo fixes issue in my case is very rare, it may be very rare for everyone, so any suggested fix likely does not work anyway, while it may look that it works due rarity of the issue.

Your experience differs from mine and every clip I've seen that highlights this issue. If it were rare, most of the people in this thread right now would simply be ignoring it. I assure you, at least in my case, it is quite literally continuous and constant on certain very common objects/textures, and I just desperately don't want to play the game like this.
