Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread
We hope you’re all enjoying or will be enjoying Monster Hunter Wilds shortly! While we hope all of our fans will have a great time with the game, there will always be some cases here and there where the game may not function correctly under certain environments and/or hardware combinations.

Before providing any reports, please ensure you've followed the steps below to rule out problems with your PC, Steam, or the game’s files:
________________________________________

Troubleshooting Guide
________________________________________

1. Check the game’s system requirements
Please make sure you meet the minimum requirements for the game, outlined on the bottom of the Steam Store page; if you do not meet the minimum requirements for the game, this may result in poor framerate, or the game not running.

If you do meet the minimum specifications but not the recommended specifications, you may want to try turning down the graphics settings, if you haven't already.

If you’re using a multi-GPU setup such as NVIDIA’s SLI or AMD’s Crossfire technologies, we recommend experimenting with disabling these settings, as they may cause compatibility issues with the game.

Capcom does not warrant nor officially provide technical support for PCs that do not meet the official, minimum system requirements, as well as guarantee normal game operations with mobile GPUs, external GPUs, and pre-release builds of Windows OS provided via Windows Insider Program.
________________________________________

2. Add the game’s folder and files to your anti-virus program’s exception/exclusion list
Some launching issues may be attributed to certain anti-virus software preventing the game executable from launching due to a false-positive error. We recommend users add all of the following files and folders to the anti-virus and firewall exclusion list to prevent this issue. If these files and folders were already added previously, try removing them from the exclusion list and re-adding them.

MonsterHunterWilds.exe Default Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds

Steam.exe Default Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam

Steam AppData Default Location: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Steam

For a guide on adding exceptions to your anti-virus software, please contact the manufacturer or visit the official website of your anti-virus software.
________________________________________
3. Give administrator privileges to Steam and the game
Some users can get the game running properly by running Steam.exe in administrator mode. This can be done by right-clicking on the .exe file and selecting “Run as administrator.” If that doesn’t work, try running the game’s .exe file in administrator mode as well.
________________________________________
4. Update your Video/Graphics Drivers and Windows Operating System
Try updating your video card drivers, as oftentimes outdated drivers can cause a variety of issues ranging anywhere from in-game graphical problems, to the game not starting, and more.

For the latest Nvidia drivers, click here[www.nvidia.com]

For the latest AMD drivers, click here[support.amd.com]

Additionally, please ensure that Windows Update has been run and that all the latest updates have been installed on your operating system.

If you still experience issues, you may want to try performing a clean installation of the video driver set. This will remove any extraneous driver DLL files or game profiles that existed with the previous driver installation, which may be causing the issue.

To do a clean video driver install, many enthusiasts use a third-party program called Display Driver Uninstaller [www.guru3d.com] (DDU), which completely removes components that were part of the original driver installation package.
  1. Run DDU and uninstall old video driver.
  2. Install the latest OEM video card driver and reboot your PC.
  3. Run the latest DirectX installer package[www.microsoft.com] and reboot your PC.

IMPORTANT! Please don't forget to reboot Windows upon completing a video driver installation. This will help reinitialize the driver and the graphics card using the new driver.
________________________________________
5. Check your graphics driver settings & computer power settings
Some high end integrated graphics chips and modern laptop class discrete GPUs may work, but have not been tested, nor are they officially supported by Capcom. Laptops with dual GPUs, such as an Intel Integrated Graphics Processor + Nvidia Dedicated Graphics Card, may need additional configuration in the event the integrated processor is overriding the dedicated graphics drivers.

If using a dual Nvidia/Intel GPU, follow these steps:
  1. Install the latest Intel integrated drivers[www.intel.com]
  2. Reboot your PC
  3. Open Nvidia Control Panel
  4. Click "Manage 3D Settings"
  5. Go to "Program Settings" and then select the game (if it is not in the list, you can add it manually by clicking "Add")
  6. Scroll down to "Power Management Mode"
  7. Set it to "Prefer Maximum Performance" / "High Performance Processor" instead of "Adaptive"
  8. Close Nvidia Control Panel and launch the game
If using a dual AMD "Switchable Graphics" GPU, follow these steps:
  1. Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
  2. Under "Switchable Graphics", select the High Performance section and select the game (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking "Browse")
  3. Click "Apply"
  4. Close AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and launch the game
Additionally, double-check your desktop/laptop’s power settings by performing the following:
  1. If using a laptop, ensure the charger is connected
  2. Open Control Panel
  3. Select "Power Options"
  4. Select "High performance"
  5. Launch the game
________________________________________
6. Update DirectX
We recommend downloading and running the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer[www.microsoft.com] to ensure DirectX is fully up to date.
________________________________________
7. Update your Windows Media Player codecs
Certain cutscene segments use video playback which relies on Windows' default Media Player codec.
If you're experiencing video playback issues during cutscenes, please try installing Microsoft's Media Feature Pack[support.microsoft.com]. Certain Windows editions, particularly in EU territories and Korea, may not have Windows Media Player and its codec preinstalled.
________________________________________
8. Verify the game’s cache in Steam
Try verifying the game's cache in Steam. You can do so by following the steps outlined in this Steam support article (reposted below). This may find missing or damaged files that need to be repaired, even if you've just installed the game. You may also try temporarily disabling your anti-virus while verifying the cache or launching the game, as on occasion anti-virus programs may flag games or the files necessary to play them as a virus.

To verify the game’s cache, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Rename (or delete) the folder "MonsterHunterWilds" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common (default).
  3. Launch Steam.
  4. From the “Library” section, right-click on the game and select “Properties” from the menu.
  5. Select the “Installed Files” tab and click the “Verify integrity of game files...” button.
  6. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
Important: One or more files may fail to verify. This is normal for most Steam games. The files that fail to verify are local configuration files that should not be replaced as part of this process. You can safely ignore this message.

This process allows the Steam client to scan every single file you downloaded for this game, verify checksum of each, and compare that against the file manifest data on Steam's content server. If the file is missing or has a different checksum value, you will receive a message stating "X files failed to validate and will be reacquired." What this means is that some files have either been deleted, or may have been corrupted. Click “Close,” and Steam will automatically download and/or replace the problematic files.
________________________________________
9. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, please confirm that there are no other applications running at the same time.
Powerful software like video recording applications can compromise the game's performance and stability by using a lot of CPU, GPU, memory, or I/O bandwidth. If the game is suffering from performance issues, please close as many applications as possible while playing.
________________________________________
10. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, delete your shader cache files.
As some graphical issues may be caused by damaged shader cache files, you may want to try deleting these files by performing the following:

For AMD GPUs
  1. Right click on your desktop and open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
  2. Go to “Global Gaming Experience” under “Gaming” and perform “Reset Shader Cache”
  3. Press the Windows key and launch Disk Cleanup
  4. Select your C drive and proceed to “OK” with the "DirectX Shader Cache" checkbox ticked to delete the files
  5. Delete “shader.cache” and “shader.cache2” located in the installation folder containing MonsterHunterWilds.exe
Note: You can skip this step if you don’t have any “shader.cache” or “shader.cache2” files

For NVIDIA GPUs
  1. Right click on your desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel
  2. Go to “Global Settings” under “Manage 3D Settings” and disable “Shader Cache Size”
________________________________________
11. If you are experiencing issues with the game display, please check your display settings.
Go to the Graphics tab in the Options menu and adjust the 120 Hz output setting and v-sync setting if you experience problems like flickering or blank screens. Display issues may also be solved by adjusting your monitor settings. Please read your monitor's manual for more information.
________________________________________
12. If the frame rate of the game is unstable, please follow the steps below to lower your settings and improve stability.
How to lower your settings:
  1. Open the options menu from title screen menu or the in-game start menu.
  2. In the Graphics section, set the Graphics Settings option to Low or Medium.
________________________________________
13. If you are experiencing crashes caused by insufficient VRAM while performing shader warming, please contact Intel Corporation or the PC vendor.
As your CPU may be damaged in this scenario, we recommend contacting Intel Corporation or your PC vendor.
________________________________________
14. If Frame Generation option is grayed out and cannot be enabled, try the following:
For Windows 10, turn on “GPU scheduling” on your Windows system from “Graphics settings” under “Display” in “System” settings.
If this does not resolve the issue, we recommend updating your driver to the latest version.
________________________________________
15. If you experience input delay or performance degradation when using frame generation, please try the following.
In the "Options" menu, select "Display" and set the vertical synchronization to "Disable."
________________________________________
16. If you still experience visual/audio-related issues or crashes, please contact our customer support [www.monsterhunter.com] with the detailed information below.
A) Your System Specs
  1. CPU name & model
  2. Name/model of the desktop or laptop (if available)
  3. Graphics card / chip model and the amount of VRAM
  4. Video driver version number
  5. System memory size
  6. OS version (Windows 10, 11, etc. Please make special note in your specs if you are running Windows "N" and "K" editions that do not come with Windows Media Player.)
  7. Anti-virus software name and version
  8. Your monitor and/or HDTV model number (if using multiple displays, please provide all make and model numbers)
  9. HDMI cable brand and model number (if available). Please confirm whether your HDMI cable is certified or compatible with 4K and HDR.
  10. Your region (continent and/or country)
A good deal of this information, such as the graphics card model and VRAM, are available by running a DxDiag report.

To create a DxDiag report:
  1. Open a "Run" dialog in Windows. This can either be done by typing "run" into Start Search, or by holding the Windows key and pressing "R."
  2. Type "dxdiag" (with or without quotes) into the box that comes up.
  3. From the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window, wait for the tool to gather the information it needs, then click "Save All Information..." which will ask you to save a text file, named "DxDiag.txt" by default. Save this file somewhere where it will be easy to find, and have it ready to attach it in your response.

B) Your Graphics Settings
Your graphics settings for the game can be found in the config.ini file, located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds (default). Please create a copy of this file and have it ready to attach it in your response.

C) Give as many details about your issue as possible
Please share your specific issue and the location(s) where you’re experiencing the issues – for example, if you’re having problems with the framerate, is it happening constantly, or is it during certain modes, during gameplay, etc.? The following information can greatly help as well:
  • Have you confirmed you’ve met at least the minimum system requirements for the game (See Step 1 in the Troubleshooting Guide)?
  • Where and when did the issue occur?
  • What were the character(s) doing when this issue occurred?
  • Did the issue resolve itself when you rebooted the game?
Please also have screenshots or video of your issue ready to attach in your response (if available). If you have a video, please upload to YouTube as an unlisted video and share the link with us.
*If the file size is too large, please let us know when submitting your ticket.

D) Detailed reproduction steps, if consistently reproducible
The more detailed info you can provide, the quicker the error can be attempted to be reproduced and investigated.

E) If you experience a crash and have a crash report, please include that information.
When the game crashes, a folder titled "CrashReport" will be created in the following directory by default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds
In most cases, a crash report will be saved in this folder as a .zip file with the date and time of when the crash occurred. Please provide all of the .zip files found within. If that's not possible, please send the file most recent to the time when the crash occurred.
Note: The location of the CrashReport folder will be displayed on the crash report tool when it has finished generating the report.

FIX YOUR FCKING GAME!!!! After TU1 the game start crashing 3 or 4 times every fcking day, just go and launch a fcking hotfix or something else.

Edit for add my PC specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
COOLER: Arctic Liquid Freezer 2 280mm AIO
RAM: 64Gb GSKILL Trident Z5 NEO 6000Mhz CL32 AMD EXPO
GPU: GIGABYTE RTX 4080 Super Windforce V2
MB: Aorus Elite X870 A WiFi 7
PSU: Corsair RM850X 750W 80+GOLD Full Modular

Right now they did a very bad job with the last patch, first of all you need to make soure you delete the file Shader.cache from the game directory (WTF) because the game wont compile shaders after the update and makes the game runs way worse than before TU1, but crash frequently is a new error, the game crashed 3 times before TU1 on 75h of gameplay, now, every fcking day the game crashes atleast 2 times minimum... i dont know what they touched but they fcked the game for me...

If you exhausted all the troubleshooting, try to turn off crossplay in the settings from the main menu. I don't know why but ir worked for me, it's no longer crashing.

None, straight native resolution, i dont' use upsaling methods as they degrade image quality.
Also why don't they put in exclusive full screen?

Any gpu driver settings that may effect you? Got some reports where a GPU driver update did activate global settings like forced AA and 80% downsampling.

No, my drivers are not overiting anything, it's all ingame.
I guess most people use somekind of AA and that's why it's not a reported issue.
Hey folks,

Hoping someone has some kind of suggestion to make this game stop crashing. It's maddening the amount of things I have done to try and get this game to work properly with not success. The game will run for a random amount of time then crash, either to desktop or locking up the whole PC and having to reboot.

7800x3d, 64gb ddr5, 4090, WD 850x nvme. Custom liquid cooled loop.

My temps are good, this is the only game that crashes. I can play tarkov and cyberpunk on max and run 3dmark and stress tests for hours with no issues.

Things I have tried (I might forget some it's a long list):

Different Nvidia drivers with DDU (safe mode)

reframework fixes

dlss / fsr, frame gen and no frame gen

turning off any overclocks including ram expo

disabled any screen overlays (steam, discord)

fresh windows install

cloud saving on or off

deleting shader files

verifying game integrity

reinstalling the game

gamers nexus fixes from recent video

manual dll swaps

high res texture pack installed and not installed

This issue has both me and my friend stumped. Both of us are pretty computer savy and were both out of ideas of how to fix this other than it being an issue on capcom end.

The ONLY thing I have gotten to work for a short amount of time is deleting my save and starting over. I managed to play for a few hours, but the next day back to crashing.

I recently also tried installing linux and running the game that way. Which is still crashing which would rule out any windows issues.

I'm starting to think the save file is getting corrupted as thats the only thing carried over from windows to linux. However I can't say for certain this is the issue.

I'm out of ideas at this point, I just want to hunt monsters.

Lower XMP to a safer level, I would wager nearly all crashes people are experiencing are caused by slight memory instability that only shows up in this game because it's working CPU and RAM so hard.

The recommended Nvidia driver is 566.36, anything later than that seems to have major issues.

Important Crash Cause – DirectStorage Incompatibility

My PC was able to run Monster Hunter Wilds normally before the v1.1.0.0 update on April 4th. After the update, the game crashes within a few minutes with Exception Code 0xC0000096, despite a clean system, reinstallation, and updated GPU drivers.

After extensive testing and comparison with other users, I believe the crash is caused by DirectStorage changes introduced in v1.1.0.0. This game likely now requires CPU-level support for newer DirectStorage features (such as hardware decompression or Shader Model 6.0), which my CPU (Ryzen 7 1700) does not support.

This means the game was playable before the patch, but has become incompatible due to backend changes — not due to user error.

Please consider:
• Adding a compatibility mode for legacy CPUs (as the game worked before),
• Or confirming if DirectStorage dependencies were changed in the latest patch.

Thank you.

So just like i told you. Theory confirmed, thanks!

โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย NeoX:

Most definitly. The 1st Ryzen CPU generation was a milestone for AMD, but its already 5 generations behind (Ryzen 9000 up to date => AM5 socket) with all its lack of features and improvements to the current generation.

โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย NeoX:

What the game changed the most is updated the directstorage version.
That one is depending on the CPU and the SSD/NVMe the game is installed on.

Now the bad news, these are the current minimum requirements for the game:

Minimum:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows®10 (64-bit Required)/Windows®11 (64-bit Required)
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-10400 or Intel® Core™ i3-12100 or AMD Ryzen™ 5 3600
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1660(VRAM 6GB) or AMD Radeon™ RX 5500 XT(VRAM 8GB)
DirectX: Version 12
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 75 GB available space
Additional Notes: SSD required. This game is expected to run at 1080p (upscaled from 720 native resolution) / 30 fps under the "Lowest" graphics setting. DirectStorage supported.

Your CPU is officialy not supported and sadly lacks many features the required CPU's have and support. So the issue could be related to the new version of direct storage that has no proper support for your CPU. Maybe you can walk around this by downgrading the directstorage dll of the game (like the linux users did), maybe this will solve it for you as a temporary workaround. But in the long run, its sadly an unsupported hardware issue on your end.

thsnks, now i get it !
Bug report : pop up camps removed or changed places in every region.
Anyone having this weird random issue where if you go to the Options, the game would randomly start r-clicking / canceling?

Like if you go to Resolution and try clicking to change it, the game would randomly r-click / cancel you out of it?

This only happens in the Options and not in any other function of the game.

I've disconnected my controller, mouse and even keyboard but it's still happening. Even verified game files, restarted PC, etc.

It can't be my PC components because I just did a full new PC rebuild and it's still happening.

This happens at complete random. Some days it happens, and other days it doesn't.
Bug report: Monsters not on actual map, but they show up on Environment Overview. You cannot find them on the actual map anywhere, but they show up on Environment Overview but you cannot turn them into investigation nor field survey. Please fix this.
I don't know why but I launched the game one evening, and I forgot to close it before going to sleep, and the next day in the morning my game was all blurry. I tried to close it and reopen it, to reboot my PC, to change my graphics, but none of that work. Any idea how to fix that ?

Try to turn off "Crossplay" from "Settings" in the main menu. It's odd but it worked for me. The game was crashing even in a private online lobby with no other players around but it's working just fine since I disabled that option. There's other reports of this issue as well.
Not sure if anybody else is experiencing this issue so I'll leave this here.
I've been playing the game for 30 hours without any crashes. However, recently I've encountered an issue where the game crashes my computer roughly every hour. It forces my pc to reboot itself automatically and lose some progress on my save file on top of the frustration having to relaunch the game every time.

I tried looking up online about this issue but everything I find about this sort of issue is 1 month old already and no clear indication on what's causing this issue.

Can I get some help in fixing this? I checked my specs performance and temperature while playing and it seems to be fine so I really don't understand what is the issue...
Booted the game up for the first time since TU1 -- Spent a few moments at the windward plains base camp. Checked my login bonuses, checked the notification with the palico at the support desk, and checked the item trades at Nata. I had taken up a few of the offers, then tried opening up Sekka's trade offers. My game crashed immediately, and started the crash report process.

I'm not sure if this is the start of the same issues others are having (crashing more frequently after TU1). Figured it was worth posting about. I hope this is not the case.

Strange. Got some bowling tickets from the login bonus first time I opened the game. I'll try that now. Thank you.
