Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread
We hope you’re all enjoying or will be enjoying Monster Hunter Wilds shortly! While we hope all of our fans will have a great time with the game, there will always be some cases here and there where the game may not function correctly under certain environments and/or hardware combinations.

Before providing any reports, please ensure you've followed the steps below to rule out problems with your PC, Steam, or the game’s files:
________________________________________

Troubleshooting Guide
________________________________________

1. Check the game’s system requirements
Please make sure you meet the minimum requirements for the game, outlined on the bottom of the Steam Store page; if you do not meet the minimum requirements for the game, this may result in poor framerate, or the game not running.

If you do meet the minimum specifications but not the recommended specifications, you may want to try turning down the graphics settings, if you haven't already.

If you’re using a multi-GPU setup such as NVIDIA’s SLI or AMD’s Crossfire technologies, we recommend experimenting with disabling these settings, as they may cause compatibility issues with the game.

Capcom does not warrant nor officially provide technical support for PCs that do not meet the official, minimum system requirements, as well as guarantee normal game operations with mobile GPUs, external GPUs, and pre-release builds of Windows OS provided via Windows Insider Program.

If you are playing with the High Resolution Texture Pack:

A minimum of 16 GB of graphic memory is required to install the High Resolution Texture Pack.

High resolution textures may not display properly without sufficient graphic memory. In addition, insufficient graphic memory may cause the game to become unstable regardless of what option is selected for the Texture Quality graphic setting while the texture pack is installed.

If the game becomes unstable after installing the High Resolution Texture Pack, disable it using the following steps:
  1. Within the Steam client program, select LIBRARY, located near the top left of the window. Next, right click Monster Hunter Wilds in your list of games and select Properties, then select DLC.
  2. Find Monster Hunter Wilds - High Resolution Texture Pack in the list of DLC, then uncheck the box in the INSTALL column beside it.
  3. Restart the Steam client.
________________________________________

2. Add the game’s folder and files to your anti-virus program’s exception/exclusion list
Some launching issues may be attributed to certain anti-virus software preventing the game executable from launching due to a false-positive error. We recommend users add all of the following files and folders to the anti-virus and firewall exclusion list to prevent this issue. If these files and folders were already added previously, try removing them from the exclusion list and re-adding them.

MonsterHunterWilds.exe Default Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds

Steam.exe Default Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam

Steam AppData Default Location: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Steam

For a guide on adding exceptions to your anti-virus software, please contact the manufacturer or visit the official website of your anti-virus software.
________________________________________
3. Give administrator privileges to Steam and the game
Some users can get the game running properly by running Steam.exe in administrator mode. This can be done by right-clicking on the .exe file and selecting “Run as administrator.” If that doesn’t work, try running the game’s .exe file in administrator mode as well.
________________________________________
4. Update your Video/Graphics Drivers and Windows Operating System
Try updating your video card drivers, as oftentimes outdated drivers can cause a variety of issues ranging anywhere from in-game graphical problems, to the game not starting, and more.

For the latest Nvidia drivers, click here[www.nvidia.com]

For the latest AMD drivers, click here[support.amd.com]

Additionally, please ensure that Windows Update has been run and that all the latest updates have been installed on your operating system.

If you still experience issues, you may want to try performing a clean installation of the video driver set. This will remove any extraneous driver DLL files or game profiles that existed with the previous driver installation, which may be causing the issue.

To do a clean video driver install, many enthusiasts use a third-party program called Display Driver Uninstaller [www.guru3d.com] (DDU), which completely removes components that were part of the original driver installation package.
  1. Run DDU and uninstall old video driver.
  2. Install the latest OEM video card driver and reboot your PC.
  3. Run the latest DirectX installer package[www.microsoft.com] and reboot your PC.

IMPORTANT! Please don't forget to reboot Windows upon completing a video driver installation. This will help reinitialize the driver and the graphics card using the new driver.
________________________________________
5. Check your graphics driver settings & computer power settings
Some high end integrated graphics chips and modern laptop class discrete GPUs may work, but have not been tested, nor are they officially supported by Capcom. Laptops and PCs with dual GPUs, such as an integrated graphics processor + external graphics card, may need additional configuration in the event the integrated processor is overriding the external graphics drivers.

To change your primary graphics card, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Start Menu on Windows and go to Settings
  2. Select System
  3. From the Display tab, open the graphics settings and then select the game (if it is not in the list, you can add it manually by clicking "Browse")
  4. Click on Options and select "High performance"
*Please note, the actual steps may differ depending on your system environment.

For details on how to change your primary graphics card from the GPU's settings, please contact the GPU manufacturer.

Additionally, double-check your desktop/laptop’s power settings by performing the following:
  1. If using a laptop, ensure the charger is connected
  2. Open Control Panel
  3. Select "Power Options"
  4. Select "High performance"
  5. Launch the game
________________________________________
6. Update DirectX
We recommend downloading and running the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer[www.microsoft.com] to ensure DirectX is fully up to date.
________________________________________
7. Update your Windows Media Player codecs
Certain cutscene segments use video playback which relies on Windows' default Media Player codec.
If you're experiencing video playback issues during cutscenes, please try installing Microsoft's Media Feature Pack[support.microsoft.com]. Certain Windows editions, particularly in EU territories and Korea, may not have Windows Media Player and its codec preinstalled.
________________________________________
8. Verify the game’s cache in Steam
Try verifying the game's cache in Steam. You can do so by following the steps outlined in this Steam support article (reposted below). This may find missing or damaged files that need to be repaired, even if you've just installed the game. You may also try temporarily disabling your anti-virus while verifying the cache or launching the game, as on occasion anti-virus programs may flag games or the files necessary to play them as a virus.

To verify the game’s cache, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Rename (or delete) the folder "MonsterHunterWilds" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common (default).
  3. Launch Steam.
  4. From the “Library” section, right-click on the game and select “Properties” from the menu.
  5. Select the “Installed Files” tab and click the “Verify integrity of game files...” button.
  6. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
Important: One or more files may fail to verify. This is normal for most Steam games. The files that fail to verify are local configuration files that should not be replaced as part of this process. You can safely ignore this message.

This process allows the Steam client to scan every single file you downloaded for this game, verify checksum of each, and compare that against the file manifest data on Steam's content server. If the file is missing or has a different checksum value, you will receive a message stating "X files failed to validate and will be reacquired." What this means is that some files have either been deleted, or may have been corrupted. Click “Close,” and Steam will automatically download and/or replace the problematic files.
________________________________________
9. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, please confirm that there are no other applications running at the same time.
Powerful software like video recording applications can compromise the game's performance and stability by using a lot of CPU, GPU, memory, or I/O bandwidth. If the game is suffering from performance issues, please close as many applications as possible while playing.
________________________________________
10. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, delete your shader cache files.
As some graphical issues may be caused by damaged shader cache files, you may want to try deleting these files by performing the following:

For AMD GPUs
  1. Right click on your desktop and open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
  2. Go to “Global Gaming Experience” under “Gaming” and perform “Reset Shader Cache”
  3. Press the Windows key and launch Disk Cleanup
  4. Select your C drive and proceed to “OK” with the "DirectX Shader Cache" checkbox ticked to delete the files
  5. Delete “shader.cache” and “shader.cache2” located in the installation folder containing MonsterHunterWilds.exe
Note: You can skip this step if you don’t have any “shader.cache” or “shader.cache2” files

For NVIDIA GPUs
  1. Right click on your desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel
  2. Go to “Global Settings” under “Manage 3D Settings” and disable “Shader Cache Size”
Note: Please be sure to remember your original settings before disabling it as you will need to revert this setting after you have finished deleting the shader cache. The default setting is "driver default."
  6. Revert the settings in step 2
________________________________________
11. Disable Compatibility Mode for “MonsterHunterWilds.exe” if enabled.
To disable the compatibility mode, follow these steps:
  1. Right click on “MonsterHunterWilds.exe” located in the following folder:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\MonsterHunterWilds
*The above is the default location.
  2. Go to Properties
  3. Open Compatibility tab
  4. Untick “Run this program in compatibility mode for:”
________________________________________
12. If the above does not resolve the issue, disable the Compatibility Mode for “Steam.exe” located in the folder below.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
________________________________________
13. If you are experiencing issues with the game display, please check your display settings.
Go to the Graphics tab in the Options menu and adjust the 120 Hz output setting and v-sync setting if you experience problems like flickering or blank screens. Display issues may also be solved by adjusting your monitor settings. Please read your monitor's manual for more information.
________________________________________
14. If the frame rate of the game is unstable, please follow the steps below to lower your settings and improve stability.
How to lower your settings:
  1. Open the options menu from title screen menu or the in-game start menu.
  2. In the Graphics section, set the Graphics Settings option to Low or Medium.
________________________________________
15. If you are experiencing crashes caused by insufficient VRAM while performing shader warming, please contact Intel Corporation or the PC vendor.
As your CPU may be damaged in this scenario, we recommend contacting Intel Corporation or your PC vendor.
________________________________________
16. If Frame Generation option is grayed out and cannot be enabled, try the following:
For Windows 10, turn on “GPU scheduling” on your Windows system from “Graphics settings” under “Display” in “System” settings.
If this does not resolve the issue, we recommend updating your driver to the latest version.
________________________________________
17. If you experience input delay or performance degradation when using frame generation, please try the following.
In the "Options" menu, select "Display" and set the vertical synchronization to "Disable."
________________________________________
18. If you still experience visual/audio-related issues or crashes, please contact our customer support [www.monsterhunter.com] with the detailed information below.
A) Your System Specs
  1. CPU name & model
  2. Name/model of the desktop or laptop (if available)
  3. Graphics card / chip model and the amount of VRAM
  4. Video driver version number
  5. System memory size
  6. OS version (Windows 10, 11, etc. Please make special note in your specs if you are running Windows "N" and "K" editions that do not come with Windows Media Player.)
  7. Anti-virus software name and version
  8. Your monitor and/or HDTV model number (if using multiple displays, please provide all manufacturers and model numbers)
  9. HDMI cable brand and model number (if available). Please confirm whether your HDMI cable is certified or compatible with 4K and HDR.
  10. Your region (continent and/or country)
A good deal of this information, such as the graphics card model and VRAM, are available by running a DxDiag report.

To create a DxDiag report:
  1. Open a "Run" dialog in Windows. This can either be done by typing "run" into Start Search, or by holding the Windows key and pressing "R."
  2. Type "dxdiag" (with or without quotes) into the box that comes up.
  3. From the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window, wait for the tool to gather the information it needs, then click "Save All Information..." which will ask you to save a text file, named "DxDiag.txt" by default. Save this file somewhere where it will be easy to find, and have it ready to attach it in your response.

B) Your Graphics Settings
Your graphics settings for the game can be found in the config.ini file, located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds (default). Please create a copy of this file and have it ready to attach it in your response.

C) Give as many details about your issue as possible
Please share your specific issue and the location(s) where you’re experiencing the issues – for example, if you’re having problems with the framerate, is it happening constantly, or is it during certain modes, during gameplay, etc.? The following information can greatly help as well:
  • Have you confirmed you’ve met at least the minimum system requirements for the game (See Step 1 in the Troubleshooting Guide)?
  • Where and when did the issue occur?
  • What were the character(s) doing when this issue occurred?
  • Did the issue resolve itself when you rebooted the game?
Please also have screenshots or video of your issue ready to attach in your response (if available). If you have a video, please upload to YouTube as an unlisted video and share the link with us.
*If the file size is too large, please let us know when submitting your ticket.

D) Detailed reproduction steps, if consistently reproducible
The more detailed info you can provide, the quicker the error can be attempted to be reproduced and investigated.

E) If you experience a crash and have a crash report, please include that information.
When the game crashes, a folder titled "CrashReport" will be created in the following directory by default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds
In most cases, a crash report will be saved in this folder as a .zip file with the date and time of when the crash occurred. Please provide all of the .zip files found within. If that's not possible, please send the file most recent to the time when the crash occurred.
Note: The location of the CrashReport folder will be displayed on the crash report tool when it has finished generating the report.

Dear Capcom, when you release dozens of DLCs, please consider bundling them together. This way, your customers won't have to click on each one individually to make a purchase. :bbtcat:

The new DLCs are available all in one bundle already

i have been crashing randomly in the game because of a system error for the MH wilds.exe saying <the system detected an overrun of a stack based buffer and that it could allow malicious users to gain control of this application. at first i thought it was related to the Nvidia Driver update so i rollback it and it seemed to work but then while using smithy i crashed, i looked at my graphics and noticed my FG was enabled when i normally keep it off cause i crash with it too, but when i finished a hunt i crashed after we killed our monster without being able to carve so no i've unistalled the game until they fix this or i find a way later because i'm getting sick of this...

Not a game issue.

This COULD be caused by a game bug, but as it's not effecting everyone it's more than likely to be a problem on your system.

A buffer overrun is normally caused by either a bad chipset driver or a problem with your GPU driver.

Alternatively, you could have some malicious software on your computer that is trying to access the memory, ie a trojan horse or similar, so you may wish to run a Malwarebytes/Spybot scan plus whatever Antivirus you're running (Defender or other) to check your system out.
Since Update 1 Ive been having crashes every 10-15 mins or so. Had no issues before Update 1. Now since Ive reinstalled the game, verified the files twice, deleted the shader.cache file several times, reinstalled the GPU driver, rolled back the GPU driver... I cant even get past the compiling shader screen now.

Im out of ideas, any help? Im done with this garbage until Capcom maybe someday listens to all these issues and fixes it.

I get no error message at all. Just the crash reporter thing pops up.

Sounds like modded and corrupted savegame.

1.Deinstall the game
2. delete the whole remaining folder
3. deactivate cloudsave
4. (backup your savegame) delete your savegame
5. reinstall the game
6. start & play it

Do not use your old savegame or use steamcloud when this solves your issue.
Writing this here because I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere.
I am not sure if it's an error or by design, but Hunting Horn is not playing all it's melodies sound files as intended.

This is better explained in the description of Aradoxas' "All Hunting Horn Melodies" for Wilds video. In their video you can also see how Hunting Horn should sound if it played all its melodies properly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ugYLB4tX20

In MH World, if you start performing by playing a song in a different position from your queue, a different melody would play as well.

Similarly in Wilds, it seems like it the same was intended intended in such a way that, assuming 3 songs are queued and played in one go, the melodies of all 3 would change based on the position in the queue of the song that was played first. The reason I believe this was the intended behavior is that, as explained by Aradoxas, there are 9 sound clips for performances (3 for each full performance), which he showcases through their videos.

However this does not currently happen in-game, as only the first song played changes its melody, while the other 2 songs melodies remain unchanged regardless of which song was played first. Which means we never get to hear the missing 4 melody bits, and songs don't fully match when performing from a song not first on the queue.

On the Radeon 7XXX GPU's you either want to be on 25.2.1 or 25.4.1, and disable Radeon Anti-Lag.

The 25.3.X drivers were garbage.
Every 15 or so minutes the game crashes, I believe it is 100% inefficient rendering, it stays in the cache and messes up other games, I reset my system and not play monster hunter no issues.

i have tried everything on this page. No mods, no issues from last update. I have all the frame generation off, dlss off, tried turning down to low. Still crashes. Any help.

The error logs give a frame generation error.
