Do you mean for Wilds specifically? Because they do preloads all the time for games in general. I just today preloaded Two Point Museum.

preloads are not the full game, they always have to download additional assets and files and often times also decrypt those files.

If your internet is decent, you are better off just downloading it on release date and don't preload at all.
