KB/M vs Controller for MH Wilds
Hey everyone,

When I first started playing Monster Hunter: World, I used an Xbox controller. Later, since I picked up Bow and Insect Glaive, I switched to keyboard and mouse for better aiming and precision.

For the MH Wilds beta, I played with keyboard and mouse again, but it somehow doesn't feel good. Now, I'm considering switching back to controller but I'm worried about aiming accuracy, especially for ranged weapons like Bow and Insect Glaive’s Beetle shots.

Any advice on whether I should stick with keyboard and mouse or transition back to controller? How do you handle aiming on a controller for these weapons?

I'm using motion controls since they have it built in game.

It's still all just large hitboxes no matter how well it's hidden.
You don't need to worry about being pin point accurate with your shots.

Do which ever feels more comfortable.

I know how you feel. Mouse is superior in Wilds because of the Focus Mode, AND the fact that some weapons cant turn mid animation with a controller, but with a mouse...they can....this must be a bug.

Im a Gunlancer main, Hammer and LS second, and the Gunlance really struggles witha gamepad because of this. Doing my full blast combo with gamepad, im locked into position unless i clawgrip, but with mouse im free to land every hit.

Bow and Glaive is best with mouse, hands down, infact, most weapons are this time around because of Focus. Im also kinda torn, i dont like the controls on keyboard, way too many buttons that cant be separated as inputs, especially aim and focus mode, they are bound togheter making it EXTREMLY frustrating when you aim and accidently fire a pod, happens all the time.

Using hotkeys and wheel also isnt great on mouse and keyboard, its very finicky.
Depends on your weapon.

And hands down: you are better off with KB+M in most situations. Wilds has too many combinations to navigate through stuff.
You can easily use shortcuts on PC to heal, buff, etc.
If you are aiming you will prefer a mouse.
Even people playing Insect Glaive on controller have a mouse so they can hit certain parts.

Stick with a mouse and keyboard, it will be a lot better.

Gamepad is easier and more relaxed but I come to found out K&M is simply better if you want to play better and have more control and aiming is a hell of a lot easier on K&M.

Exactly this. I love sitting back in my chair and relax while fighting with a gamepad, but when i use Mouse im just so much more efficient in the fights.

If the controls for this game were easier to map, id choose Mouse all day long, but osme of the inputs cant really be freely changed, its very annoying. also the modifiers for certain combos is obnoxious to use on a mouse and keyboard, feels way better on controller.

Im gonna have to debate myself early in the game, if i can get a good hotkey shortcut set up,aswell as good buttons for combos and actions, my gamepad goes on the shelf.

This was my experience. Played better on the K&M but doing the counter combos on Switchaxe were way less reliable on it compared to my controller.

One thing I did was look at a guide of recommended keybinds there was one in the beta that helped a lot.
I'm lazy so I hate going through that mess of a UI Capcom made & just followed a guide & then swapped a couple things to my mouse which has like 7 extra buttons on it.
I never used a K&M on Rise & Wilds but my gamepad was broken so for the first time in Wilds beta I used K&M & I picked up on it almost instantly.

What I've noticed so far and i just got the game myself, but when using insect glaive when you're flying in the air, your dodge direction is based off your W A S D keys based on where your character is facing and not where you're aiming with the mouse unlike the attack portion you aim with the camera instead, i couldn't find a setting to change the dodge to go where I am aiming the camera. so i think i'm going to use my switch controller and try and copy the rise layout for controller if that's not something that can be changed
