Alternatively, if you have incurable FOMO, you can impose gameplay limits on yourself, to imbue difficulty. I'm not sure of every mechanic in the game; but, you could dismiss the steed and hoof it throughout the map; leave the Palico at home; heal with only the most logical curatives (e. g., pots versus shellfish)... Dunno. It depends on how much freedom the game given players with the crutches it provides.
do not upgrade armor/weapons
do not use "decos"
do not uee buff-food....
do not use (health) potions,...
i smell elitism,ageism,... here
where is the problem?
be happy that the game at least in terms of difficulty seems to be compatible to a major amount of players, since otherwise it would not exist
i have serious doubts,
that a game only made for (tiny) (sell-proclaimed) minority of "hardcore gamers"
could return the investments for a big budget AAA/AAAA game
