You should only pre load if you have bad internets....
When you pre load the game it comes without the exe and encrypted and has to unpack this can take an excessive amount of time on even decent PCS.

When you download directly from steam following a release, the game is installed and unpacked during the download so you dont have these excessive unpacking times.

If your PC is simply very good and has good storage (fast NVMEs etc) and good internet you dont need to care either way and can do whatever you prefer.

Or you could have a decent cpu and this isn't a problem.

It really depends on how good or bad your internet is, even with a good cpu. I've got a 7800x3D with games installed on a Nextorage G Series NVME drive and a preload decrypt still takes longer than just installing the game at release as long as I don't try downloading within the first 30 minutes-hour the game is released in while the servers are bogged down. Wilds will release while I'm at work so personally I'll just install it when I get home.

Yeah.

Helldiver 2 taugh me that lesson lol.
That unpack time is unreal, makes me wonder if it will be faster if I just download it normally.
And it was indeed, faster.
how long is this "excessive amount"?

The last game I tried preloading took about an hour with pretty high end hardware to decrypt slightly over 80gb. If you have an ssd with slow read/write speeds or an older cpu I wouldn't be surprised if Wilds took 2 hours+ to decrypt, even longer if you're still using an hdd.

I have a powerful pc but a slow internet, that is why i love pre-loading.

You do realize that you are wrong right? What if the servers overload because of how many people are downloading the game on release?

I never preload and i NEVER experienced any problems with downloading on day 1. And despite being a great series, its not THAT big.
