That's because the humble subscription is a rip off and you probably actually save more without it. Or better yet, if you just never use Humble because it sucks now. Thanks IGN.
The way it works is that Steam doesn't take a cut if you sell the game off Steam, but use Steam as a platform, i.e. sell a key, and they let you generate keys for free.
So what devs/publishers do is sell keys to third party sites at the same exact cut they would to steam, i.e. the sites like GMG "take" what would have been Steam's 30% cut.
They then only keep keep a small amount of that and pass on the rest as a 15-20% discount.
This only works because Steam allows people to sell off Steam without taking a cut. And for this reason, Steam is ironically almost always the worst place to find deals. Each Steam sale has these sites mimicking them with waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better deals.
I barely buy games on Steam itself anymore.
well since you were selfish and short sighted enough to post this I will make your day by saying I got my key from humble days ago and that preload will be available later today.
it's actually kinda comical you think that buying on Steam is somehow superior to using ana authorized reseller ... why do you think they offer better prices? I will explain - Valve do not get to take 30% off the purchase .... so you best sit down because this next part is gonna trigger you.
IF a product a 20% launch discount and the RRP is identical to Steam - and Steam take 30% off the gross before the publisher recieved a penny - not to mention they don't pay for 2 months after launch ....
Which option do you think is more beneficial to the Publisher and consequently the Studio?
Now you just take a deep breath and enjoy your humble pie cupcake.
/hugs
You are falling into subscription mentality for a monthly gamble of games jumbled together into a pile designed for you to take garbage with imperfect gems, inflating the value.
The vast majority of games in monthly bundles add up near to or in many cases above what they have individually sold for before on discounts, and that's assuming you actually really wanted all the games and intend to play them all, which I doubt.
This is how they keep it profitable. They 20% discount is a bit of the money they're already skimming from you mixed with the same discount every other store is giving you to keep you subbed.
If you actually do the math, you're usually paying more just to be lazy, and god help you for padding your account with games we both know you will never play. Each one of those is you throwing money away.
You are almost always better off buying straight up bundles (even some from Humble, but usually places like Fanatical have waaaaaay better ones now) or just waiting to get the specific games you want on sale. 99.9% of the time games you see in 'crazy' bundles will go for sale for their bundled value right before or right after, if not at the same time.
But ever since IGN took over, the reason humble has sucked more and more is because they are pushing profits even harder.
Ego, the site is generally a rip off. What you need to do to maintain the sub 20% discount (consistent months subbed) is you just being a good wuddle brainwashed money pig.
But hey, it's your money and I don't kink shame.
I typically mainly buy from keysites, HOWEVER, if devs/companies start making preload the common practice, I'll have to switch to buying from Steam.
Keysites are going to have to adapt and offer keys earlier at the time of preload if they're going to compete.
Lol.
You can say whatever you want, mate. And there are plenty of communities that regularly post early leaks of the monthly games and/or discuss, and people trash on it all the time. So much, in fact, that Humble Bundle themselves actually started sending out surveys since people weren't subbing or buying bundles asking what would make it better. They also changed the way the sub like 4 times already.
It just sounds to me like you just recently subbed and are trying to convince yourself you weren't conned. But being unaware and ignorant of something doesn't mean it's not the truth lmao.
Again, it's your money wasted, not mine. But you're objectively paying more for the bundled games, either shortly before or after, and you're objectively wasting money if you don't play every single game you get.
The wise folk just buy what they want at the discount it would have been in a bundle anyway or get better bundles from places like Fantical.
Astrea was a recent fun surprise of a game
Humble monthly is great. Some of the good games that I end up with copies, I gift to my friends.
Gamepass is superior in value, but HBMonthly is good. There's some overlap between the two, but HMB at least you own the game longterm.
Fanatical has this game on sale for 18% too btw. If your not a HBM sub. Fantaical may not have met your state (US) tax quota for online sales, so you might not have to pay state sales tax as well.
Humble is great overall, you can get a photoshop license for 5usd sometimes, sometimes you have the whole digitalized series of wtvr comics or boardgame rpg. Cheap pro licenses for game dev engine and shiieit.
Doesnt get better than humble + You fund cool stuff if you want to give some extra dollars
I paid $35 for this ♥♥♥♥, not willing to play the full price for such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ performace
It's 18-20% everywhere else too, no sub required lol.
