Wilds also gives you AI "fake friends" who you can call in and they do a really good job, to be honest.
But if you are social enough, there will be LOADS of discord groups for Monster Hunter looking for players exactly like you who are looking for company to blast your way through a local monster extinction program.
so yeah, it's perfectly fine to play it solo. it's fun.
it is of course even more fun to goof around with buddies and slaying monsters in a team but which game isn't more fun with a couple of good friends?
As with nearly every game it's better with friends but without friends solo is the 2nd best option with Monster Hunter, ignore the online until you hit a wall you cant beat.
Once you're done with the story, seen every monster and farmed your end-game set you can join random lobbies and help people maybe you'll find new friends !
enemies scale if you are in multi, to account for more players
i find it fun solo if you just enjoy the "big boss fight" concept, if not, no idea if you will
As a new player it's arguably a better idea to play solo anyway. It's a rougher experience, but also WAY better at teaching you how to play.
If you always play multiplayer you probably won't learn the fights because experienced players can often end fights pretty quick. Depending on how good they are at staggering/traps/counters etc the monster may not get to do much at all.
And if you run into a monster you just can't beat and you've given it your best shot then consider using an SOS flare to either summon some players or NPCs to help you out.
And don't worry about getting downed when you're new. When I tried playing MH for the first time I spent a few hours getting sent back to town by the tutorial's Alpha Raptor. Don't give up though. Given enough persistance you can and WILL get your first win.
2 - you can play with the NPCs only if you want, they will help you a lot
3 - if you try, monster hunter can be the game to make friends to play together, you can give a chance
That must be pre-World because World and Rise I didn't run into any walls until.. well, high rank, frankly.
