New Weapon Ideas
The devs said that creating a new weapon that doesn't already overlap with the preexisting weapons would be difficult, but I have a few ideas:

- Chain Scythe: A hybrid melee/ranged weapon where you can switch between two stances of melee and chained.

- Titan Whip: A thick, metal whip designed for crushing impact damage at medium range.

- Gauntlets: Fist weapons for quick impact damage and evasiveness.

- Gunlance (Without Shield): A faster, more aggressive version that sacrifices defense for mobility.

What do you all think?

[insert dynasty warrior series weapons here]
Chain scythe sounds like a rip from Dauntless

Titan Whip could be cool, but the point of a whip in most fantasy media is control with binding attacks (or whip swords for slicing attacks)

Gauntlets I'm always down for.

Gunlance w/o shield is too similar to the current Gunlance. You already don't need the shield if you don't want to use it. I'd much prefer an actual spear weapon like from Dynasty Warriors Origins

I think there should be a pet style class, Maybe be able to tame a lesser monster to fight for you.

It would be interesting to see.

It definitely would be something different.

I haven't played Dauntless, but the scythe & chain has been a thing way before that game existed. I was imagining just a giant Kusarigama.

I was actually thinking the whip could also have some sort of binding attack. The game is lacking on medium-range weapons and ways to deal impact damage, so I feel like the whip would be a great fit.

We don't need to use the shield on the Gunlance, but it does heavily affect our movement whether we use it or not. They could distinguish it more from the variant with the shield in the same way they differentiate other similar weapons - like how they do with the Lance and Gunlance, or Sword & Shield and Long Sword, or Hammer and Hunting Horn. Having a spear would be cool, too.

+1

This is a dope idea, I never thought of this.

Next Weapons would probably for one another hybrid weapon with a switch mechanic or something entirely new.

As for what i think would fit and i have said this since i think MH3U is some sort of giant boomerang weapon and i think there was also concept art of something similar along the original desing for palamutes when they were supposed to work as weapons and you'd essentially give them commands with your attacks buttons.

Tho my original thought was just a giant boomerang would be enough where as now i think making it a switch weapon where the first form is some kinda melee weapon which then fills a bar and when full you can switch action it into aforementioned giant boomerang which then does continuous damage while flying and can be charged like greastswords charge to increase the distance it travels. Making you try to get that sweetspot where the weapon stays in place for a few seconds and then come back right on the monster for big damage.

Not too sure yet what the melee form would be if its to smaller blades that then combine into the boomerang, maybe large bladed fans? But yeah that would be what i'd like to see and play and i don't think it's too out there either in terms of MH's weapon themes. Unlike Magic staffs over whatever weird stuff i've seen people come up with over the years.
Elemental staff, it fires out elemental energy by using philes.

Make it extend and retract too, kinda like Sun Wukong's staff too add a little more oomph to it.

Yeah, for Dauntless the chain scythe(s? I think it was dual wield) were hybrid mid-range/melee weapon that could pull themselves to the monster or vault away to create distance. They were pretty fun iirc. Had a momentum mechanic that the more you attacked the more damage you dealt or something? It's been forever since I played and this is entirely off memory.

The problem with just taking the shield away but keeping the concept the same is it makes the weapon too similar to the current one. With SnS and LS they're entirely different weapons, even LS and GS (where LS originally came from) are different enough that they don't play or feel anything alike. Same with SnS and Dual Blades (again, shared a tree originally). Hammer and Horn are both blunt weapons but that's where the similarities end. They're as similar as Longsword is to Charge Blade because they're both slashing weapons.

Lance and Gunlance are the most similar weapons at face value with Gunlance being "Lance with gun", but once you play them you can see just how different they really are and just taking away a shield to make it more mobile won't change it enough to make it distinct. The better idea would be to take the "mobile explosive melee weapon" idea and apply it to a different weapon entirely. For example:

Gunscythe (not unlike Ruby's Crescent Rose from RWBY) could be a medium fast melee weapon that uses shells to propel the hunter forward (blast dash baby), use shells mid swing to apply shelling damage and increase the swing speed (timing based attacks), shelling could be used from mid-range to deal piercing damage (like a pseudo-Bowgun). It wouldn't have a full burst mechanic because the idea would be to spend shells on boosting your melee combo speed and power or for mobility to stick to the monster. An explosive shelling weapon that's mobile and unique to itself.
