Wilds' "Wedge Beetle" / "Wirebug"?
What's this game's equivalent to World's Wedge Beetle and Rise's Wirebug? Is there a rappelling mechanic? If so, is it like the restrictive Worlds take, or more like Rise's system?

the focus mode and wounding is this games gimmick, lets you aim your attacks in any direction whenever you hit the button even mid-animation if you want, and lets you do big attacks on wounds and special openings. check out the previews and such for more info on it or wait for the official demo to try it out yourself, its honestly good fun

I think OP is asking if there's some kind of grapple mechanic for movement rather than the game's gimmick.

There was some wedge beetles like in World iirc, so more like World than Rise.

in that case, to add to your comment, it has worlds slinger, but now its used to collect items and materials from a distance instead of grappling the monster

Hmm... I don't re-call many (any?) of those fixed Wedge Beetles being in the beta... Were there any? The only allusions to that mechanic were those scripted bits where the player pulls down pre-set traps and environmental attacks -- which are not level traversal / rappelling related.

This part, I know about. It's the actual map traversal related "beetles" / "bugs" which I'm inquiring about... because I don't re-call much of this part of the game in the beta, nor even in the developer demonstrations / explanations of gameplay 🤔

not sure how often theyll be in the full game, but there was at least 1 area in my memory that had the actual wedge beetles for climbing a mt, it wasnt somewhere monsters could enter however

Funny thing, its now possible to catch the beetles with the capture net, another one will always appear to replace the one captured infinitely lol

the maps looks like they will be more expansive rather than more vertical which personally im fine with, im a little sick of having giant trees & mts that you have to chase monsters up/down constantly

Oh yeah now im thinking about it, there were indeed a couple wedge beetles around the place that you could try mounting the monsters from, hanging from rocks near dunes and one in the plains/savanna area near doshaguma nest

aside from these though yeah the map traversal is more done by the mount now rather than anything else

^ I just want the mechanic for the sake of diversity in travel; because if it all takes place on a horizontal plane, it'll get boring much sooner... To say nothing of the reduced tracking routes if there exists little-to-no vertical aspect to the maps. I found the Rise system to be an improvement over World's, and I was kind of hoping that Wilds would be more like more Wirebugs. I also have the "more Wedge Beetles" mod installed in World, which I couldn't do without now.

I'd venture to say that most would have voted for the "Ancient Forest" as their favourite map in 'World', which was the most "vertical" of all the maps... But, that's neither here nor there at this point.

Lol no way, most people complain about ancient forest before anything else, in fact most times we've had vertical maps its been a source of frustration afaik. i still remember seeing memes about the monsters repeatedly jumping up and down slopes in past titles, plus the frustration of monsters flying all the way to the top / all the way to the bottom without landing anywhere in-between making you have to climb that whole distance all over again, again and again

when i see people praise ancient forest its always because of the theme of thick foliage, not because they actually enjoy climbing the tree, and people always recommend new players to unlock the top camp ASAP just so they can skip it all

there is still verticality in this game though, just not so much that youre required to chase monsters up/down all the time. the chatacabra caves had an upper area you could traverse, the mountain the towns are connected to circled back on itself and you could climb up and around all over the place there (rey dau goes up there sometimes and iirc there was some monster's nest up there too), and there were multiple entrances into cave systems below the map. the maps just arent elevator towers, as i said, more expansive rather than more vertical

all the power to you if you like that, i frankly will not miss it, i prefer level design like that to be exclusive to optionally explored areas, not actual hunting zones. even just the slow down of pushing through vines annoyed me enough that i always did my best to avoid certain routes like the plague in that forest... man i really hate that map lol
rise's maps were a lot better but there were still areas that flat required wirebugs to get to, i would say wild's maps are very similar to that just that there are alternate ways to get to said areas now. so if its exploration you want, i wouldnt worry too much, its still there

mind you all this comes just from the desert area of the beta, there could still be other very vertical maps, i just dont assume there will be by the way the seikret works.
dont know what you mean by tracking routes either, world's areas were only ever connected to ~2 other areas that the monsters would go to and its the exact same here, the areas are still interconnected to eachother and you can still take multiple different routes to get to the same place, seikret is just an upgraded tailraider in that respect. And for zones like the chatacabra's, as i said earlier, you could choose to go up inside of forwards and come down on it from above if you wanted, im sure therell be more areas like that in the full game

sorry for lots of words... TL:DR there is still verticality, its somewhat similar to rise's maps, the wirebugs have just been replaced by the mount this time around. if you like exploring, theres still plenty of that, its just less of the monster using an elevator that you have to chase now
