As far as I know, crowns are the size of the monster. So gold crowns are gonna be big big (Look up a gold crown Arkveld)

Its purely size, changes nothing else

Gotta' catch them all, Monster Hunter! :mhwilds_OK:
They're just for size. It's for achievement hunters and completionists. If you don't care about either of those, you can just ignore it

Crowns doesn't serve any other purpose than achievements. There's one for getting one and all crowns for both small and large, silver and gold. It's basically an artificial grind focused into the trophy/achievement addicts out there.
If you don't care for either, it's safe to ignore them.

It could be placebo, but i swear giant gold crowned monsters are stronger and mini crowned are weaker.

Just to elaborate, you only need the gold ones. Silver is trash.

This is because monster head/tail is positioned much higher when it's bigger. It was literal hell when I was still using SnS back in World when the only thing I can hit is the monster's legs.

It's cosmetic yes, but also hunting a Large Crown and a Small Crown on many of the monsters is necessary for certain achievement unlocks if you are going for 100%
mini monters look cute

That's what it use to mean.
the size of the monster i believe use to factor into how much bigger or smaller it's health pool is.
