Cancel Dragon piercer
There is no direct combo to cancel dragon piercer, once started. But is there any way to cancel it? It just is bad, if you just launch dragon piercer and the Boss just then turns attention to you and you can do nothing.

Maybe next game dragon piercer will auto-aim the monsters and you'll auto-dodge while charging it, it's the way the series is going.

As far as I know, no. It's a move you have to commit.
The best you can hope for is to direct it straight at the monster as they're charging at you and try to flinch them.

But that also only works if the combo is finished. If the boss is too fast, you are still at shooting while the boss already hits you.
People usual only do dragon piercer, if they see the Boss is busy, but some bosses are so quick that drawin attention + attack is faster than you finished the combo.
So you have no chance but to take the hit, although you did everything right and looked for the Boss being busy.
If you commit to a move with a long animation at the wrong time you get punished for it, thats how Monster Hunter has always been.

But if you did it without boss having your attention, it is random and not own fault. I am used from beat em up games, that you can cancel long combos if the enemy suddenly attacks you, thats why I asked.
And this is not a beat them up games. It is a hunting game where your movement, position and decision "at the time" is important.

You want the maximum damage possible with your bow ? Well better be sure that you can do it and not get gobbled up by the dragon.

It's just decision making for something that is, litteraly, a small rocket attached to your arrow. Can't cancel it and you should not be able too.

If it's your first Monster Hunter : It will get better as you get more experience.

If you'd done it right you wouldn't have been hit.
You've got to get a feel of the timing in order to ensure you have the window of opportunity to pull it off. If you, as you say "did everything right" then you wouldn't have been punished for getting it wrong.
Dragon Piercer isn't something to spam constantly. It is a big, high-commitment move for when the monster is flinched, knocked over, paralysed, stunned or the like. If you just try to throw it into your regular attack stream constantly, of course you're going to get smacked. Other weapons have similar moves.

99% of the time I also do not get hit by monster, because if comming at me or being close, I don't do dragon piercer, but charging sidesteps and flying swallow shot. But there is that one situation where you stand perfectly, the boss was busy/on ground and suddenly is at you before combo finished. Guess I have just then to suck it up, as it doesn't kill me anyway, I just hate to be hit.

You're going to be in for a nasty surprise if they add Tigrex to Wilds.
That thing you're describing is practically Tigrex's signature move. "Oh, you're shooting me from behi- SURPRISE RAMPAGE!"

Look, the only other advice I can give you is to MOVE when the monster so much as looks at you. For at least anything that isn't Tigrex, you still have half a second or so where the monster refocuses on you and you know you're about to be attacked. Don't be there. And don't use Dragon Pierce while its attention is on you.
